06' Avalon interior "rattles" and "pops"- anyone have them?
A friend of mine has a 06' Avalon XLS and has been complaining of interior noises. Anyone else have this issue?
Strange, because I had a 1981 Toyota Cressida luxury sedan (which was the Avalon of the 1980s) and with over 200K miles and it was still 100% squeak and rattle free, even over rough terrain, but the interior materials seemed to be of higher quality than they are now.

Yes. One big rattle was the headliner rattling against the roof. The dealer fixed it by stuffing insulation between the headliner & the roof next to the back window. I found it by open hand slapping the roof while sticking my head in through an open back window. I thought it was in the back deck, but I couldn't duplicate it by banging on it.
We also have a soft, metallic click/clack coming from the back end. It only happens with sharp bumps in the road. I stuffed foam insulation strips into the metal cover where the subwoofer would go if we had one. Didn't help much.
Our '99 Avalon didn't have any rattles, but this car is a rattle trap. The sheetmetal is also very thin...so thin that there's dimples in the trunk lid where my wife closed the truck with her fingertips. There's also several dents in the roof from acorns hitting it.

Yes I have some odd noise coming from the driver's side door. Going over bumps it sounds as if the door is moving. I assume the door panel is actually moving and rubbing against something. Quite annoying. I have a few other rattles that are not a big deal but this is a toyota so I am surprised. A few more rattles and I will be buying GM products!

No rattles in my '06 after 8 months. I do get a minor clunk sometimes (not always) when I come to a stop and when I start up from a stop. Seems like it is coming from the trunk and as if something is loose back there. Nothing is loose that I can see. One of these days I'll try to figure it out.

I get a clunk just like that on my 2005 avalon. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side from tire area...

There is a tsb about that.
Check it out SU005-06 (revised) It came out June 30th 2006. Toyota changes the strut supports and does an alignment , but only during the 3yr. 36K mile warranty period.

I replaced to an 08 Highlander wasn't really impressived on the Avalon at all. Parents still have there 99 avalon and it's been a great sedan for them they still have it in there fleet but overall on this body style there are a few shortcomings.I can only hope Toyota Next Avalon is better made and they add a nicer quality sound system with better econimicis.

I know what you mean. My 17 year old lexus ls400 rides better than my 2005 avalon and has less problems. It also gets about the same gas mileage (has a v-8) and the transmission smoothly applies the power to the road. I'd love to sell the avalon, but people decided to wreck into it twice and I'm sure that isn't going to help the resale.

It's not the don't like the Avalon it's a decent Sedan it's just for me the car really didn't overall suit my need's and want's. Im not looking for a flashy car with bling bling but something to enjoy .I kept driving it and hating the interior layout's and a few things bothered me about the overall Quality it's just not something i would have expected in Toyota Flag ship sedan. Overall For a sedan to have a navigation server with a lame joy stick controller is indeed very bad for a huge company like Toyota much less not provide bluetooth on the 2007 and have that in a camry(wake up Toyota).
I hear you about Wreaks hell My 2000 Tundra didnt survive Georgia thus why im moving to Texas soon to escape this pit. Overall Ga growth is getting out of hand plus i like wide open space and Texas provides that ranch feel like California My former home state.
about Quality I tend to think Toyota was better on the older models avalons.the Tundra for 2007 Consumer reports had a huge bone to pick with Toyota why they didn't have them on the buyers guide and yet pasted Tundras were always on the list.I choose the Highlander on it's New body style because the Hybrid has been around a wile and Im somewhat intrested in the Technogoly there since My friends 2007 Camry Hybrid in your area is really an intresting Peice or work.Hybrids in general are becoming more popular gone are the day's on the boring looking first gen weird looking hybrid designs.
Cheers Erik

I have to agree. The navigation system with the joystick in the Avalon is a very poor executed idea. On top of that, when I was testing the car. The navigation system could not located my brothers address in North Carolina.

Toyota does offer bluetooth on the 2008 Avalon. Not sure about the 2007.
