Smile ETC 1996 Avalon

Does anyone know what the ETC botton is for on a 1996 Avalon. I just bought my car from a used dealership and they don't have the manual. I've been searching for a site that would a free one but I haven't found one yet. Don't think I will so I may end up just ordering one but I want this botton is for.

The Avalon Pwr Button just is just geared for a little bit more power on hill's etc My parent's got a new 1999 Avalon so I know this from experience driving there car more then a few times. Even thought the 98 and 99 avalon are revised on the headlight's grill and Jeweled rear end tail light's treatments it's the same car as the 95 to 97..

thanks for the info. You wouldn't by chance happen to know what makes this difference then the overdrive button.

It kinda creates the illusion of more power buy letting the motor rev higher between shifting. It makes the car shift harder and seems to make a little difference.

The overdrive button, when on, shifts the car into a 4 gear to lower rpms while driving to reduce engine wear and improve gas mileage.

As with what's been said, the main thing the ECT button does is let the engine rev higher before shifting than in normal mode, which allows for slightly faster acceleration.

That being said, I don't use mine much. I could see it being useful when trying to accelerate onto a highway from a dead stop, but where I live I rarely encounter such a thing, thus my use of the normal mode.

Hope this helps some.
