The expense of purchasing and maintaining a vehicle has grown disproportional to most folks income so it would stand to reason not to risk that investment no more than letting your home fall into disrepair. Inquire about an engine or transmission replacement to put things in perspective. Electronically managed engines and transmissions are too sophisticated to leave anything to chance. This is where synthetics can play a role in protecting and extending the useful service life of a vehicles' drivetrain components. Exception: Those who abuse their equipment will pay the consequences no matter what kind of countermeasures are taken. If you trade vehicles every three or four years then synthetics probably aren't cost effective.
Conventional lubricants have come long way and get the job done however synthetics have the edge in my opinion if you plan on keeping the vehicle beyond 200K. There is psychological comfort with synthetics because of their molecular superiority and extended drain interval within reason.
Do your homework and make your own informed decision about what suits your specific needs. But if you're picky about your ride and know the value of a dollar then the added expense of synthetic is a small economic concession toward feeling secure and confident whether you're on the freeway, city street or a back woods trail.

Why I can't vote for John McCain

McCain Feingold (Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act):
Re-read the first amendment and decide for yourself truthfully if this legislation is an overstep by our Congress, more judicial activism or a combination. Although George Bush was complicit in my opinion by signing this infamous legislation. I find this ironic since McCain was one of five senators named in the Keating 5 scandal (Lincoln Savings and Loan collapse in 1989) and beneficary of $1.3 million (collective total) in campaign contributions from Keating. McCain's take was $112,00 not including some air travel expenses of $13,433 paid for by Keating which to McCains credit were later paid back.
Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006: Any "conservative" who gets chummy with Chappaquiddick Ted is highly suspect. George Bush is just as guilty as McCain, Kennedy et al in trying to foist this travesty on the American public. McCain does not share the concerns of most Americans about this volatile issue. He along with the majority of his comrades chose to pander instead of representing their constituents.
Party Loyalty:
His spotty record of not supporting his party should cause alarm among true conservatives. How is he going to perform under pressure of domestic or international crises? He has become a pariah in his own party. Will the real John McCain please stand up.
Education:
Graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at Annapolis with hundreds of demerits. A structured environment just did not suit his personal style. His disdain for superior officers was well known-"it was bs and I resented the hell out of it." Could he be bitter because he never made admiral like his father and grandfather? His Annapolis years are very revealing.
Military Service:
John McCain is a decorated war hero! And I admire and laud his service to our country. Sadly his political service has not measured up to his war record.
Taxes:
One of two Republicans who voted against the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 aka "the Bush tax cuts."
McCain voted against the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003
Finally voted to extend the tax breaks in 2005.
On Flying The Confederate Flag In South Carolina:
"I feared that if I answered honestly, I could not win the South Carolina primary. So I chose to compromise my principles."
Fiscal Manager:
McCain could not effectively manage his own campaign finances early on so how would he manage our nations finances as president?
Marriage Score:
Two so far, the last a woman 17 years his junior. Infidelity wrecked the first.
