This blog is about my search for better fuel economy for my truck. I have a 2004 Toyota Tundra Double cab with a V8 engine, four wheel drive, and a four speed automatic transmission. Of all the years the Tundra has been available it appears that the 2004 DC truck, because of its size and engine/transmission configuration, gets the worst mileage of all the Tundras. The Gross Vehicle Weight of the truck is 6600 pounds and the EPA fuel economy rating for the truck is 14 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the freeway. In all honesty these fuel economy figures are both generous and unrealistic.

MPG Numbers 6-09-2009

Filled up today:

328.8 miles all city driving
Mostly trailer
22.601 gallons Shell87
14.5480 MPG
.3198 decrease in MPG since last of highway driving

Not much of anything remarkable here beyond the fact that I used to get around 12 miles to the gallon when pulling a trailer and now I am conistently getting in the fourteens. The new gears along with the other modifications I have done really have made a difference. I am looking forward to the next couple of modifications as currently I am getting over 18 miles per gallon on the highway and I believe I am within striking distance of 20+ MPG.
The trailer did have a little more weight in it than the usual compliment of mowers. A few days I was hauling landscaping debris from the various properties where we are engaged in various projects.
