A visit to the Big Apple

Posted 12-09-2007 at 05:40 PM by TundraSoul
The first week in December my wife and I paid a visit to New York city for five days. We stayed at a comfortable Sheraton hotel in Queens and used the subway train to make our way into Manhattan daily.

Our visits included the typical tourist attractions like the Empire State Building, Macy's, Rockefeller Center, NBC television, Radio City and other destinations. At any given time some 13,000 taxi cabs are on the street of New York but getting in one is another story. Everything was...

December 08, 2007

I just got back from Firestone Complete Auto Care on Travis AFB. They gave me a pretty good deal on a set of Brigdestone Dueler AT Revo's 265/70-17 which are a little taller than the stock size. Before purchasing the tires, I had the vehicle aligned becaues it pulled to the right. It's been doing that since I purchased the vehicle back in July 2006. The dealer said the alignment print out showed that everything was okay. It's now December 2007, I've gotten the vehicle...

Bassani cat-back exhaust

Posted 11-12-2007 at 09:02 PM by Eddie
Years ago while browsing through ebay I found an auction for a Bassani exhaust. This was one of their systems that replacess the factory Y-pipe and has a dual inlet/outlet muffler. Another bonus, the seller had both split-side and split-rear tailpipe assemblies. The price was too good to pass up

Fast-forward to the present. Last Saturday I finally installed my JBA headers, today I decided to bring the exhaust with me to work. As soon as 4:30 PM came I put the Tundra on my lift and...

JBA headers installation notes

Soak everything with penetrant, even the exhaust hangers. I unbolted the exhaust from the Y-pipe,unbolted the cats from the manifolds, then slid the cats/Y pipe assembly back.

I unbolted the motor mounts to lift up the engine. This makes access to all manifold nuts easy and makes it easier to remove the old manifolds and install the headers.

Unbolt the dipstick tube bolt, shifter cable bracket, and wiring harness heat shield. All are located on the driver side.

In about 6 hours I begin the task of replacing my leaking exhaust manifolds and bad O2 sensors. Luckily I'll be doing it at work,on a lift.

I bought JBA headers several years ago through a TS group buy,was just too lazy to install them One of the manifolds started to leak this year along with a MIL for O2 sensors,it's time to put the headers on.

I'm not too impressed with the quality of the headers. The welding is sloppy. I ran a tap to clean the O2 sensor bungs due...
