Default Brakes and Lifts

Ever since I did my lift, my brakes have flet a little mushy. I had them adjusted at the dealer, and they are better, but still not as tight as I think they should be.

Then I saw this thread in the 1st-Gen forum:

What IS that thing on rear axle?

Which got me thinking. (Uh, oh. Cyberbilly's thinking again ) Since I added 1-inch blocks to the rear, do I need to adjust the brake proportioning vavle to compensate for the lift?

Well this is how it works, if you lift your truck and don't do something with this valve what will happen is it will pretty much shut off the line pressure to the rear brakes.
So your likely running on just front brakes.
I'm not sure how this will make your brakes mushy, possible you have glazed up your front pads and I have seen this make them more difficult to stop with. In a sense you will need to push harder to stop.
Now buddy, I'm no expert on lifting trucks, so I don't know what the best way to go about fixing this. But Looking at that picture it looks to me like they just added a bracket to move the rod up some. This should do the trick move it up the and inch to equal your block height and you should be good.
You may need to pull out your front pads and sand the surface to de-glaze them. If you see any flaking of the pad material, replace them they are shot.

Thanks. The front pads are new. (Well, fairly new; only about 2 months old).

toytec lifts has the BPV bracket you need....its like 12 bucks even though you can make one yourself alittle cheaper but theres is for 1.5" of rear lift....so you might want to look at that for an example and try to make one. If not im sure it would work....might make your brakes alittle more reactive in a good way.

didn't I show you my BVP on ocracoke? just go to lowes or home depot and get a slightly longer than stock eye bolt to replace yours. measure the original from tip to thread and increase incrementaly until you get what you are looking to stop at. I will warn you dont give too much to the rear on an unloaded truck, you wont like driving in the rain. I adjusted mine several times to get it just right, keep in mind the rears should be clean and properly adjustedbefore making any adjustment.

I looked on their site and can't find it. Do you have the exact link?

I will second the eye bolt. It cost me 89 cents from Lowes and it works like a charm.
