Default How to adjust parking brake, '02 2WD

Can someone post a step-by-step on how to adjust the parking break on and '02, 2WD, 4.7L V8 Tundra? No special problems, but with about 50k miles, it needs tightening due to usage....OK, I've started off from the driveway a couple of times with the partking brake still set.

Every time you set your parking brake it adjusts it's self, or it supposed to. When a parking brake goes out of adjustment it can mean it is time to replace the back brakes. 50K is low miles for back brakes. On the brake backing plate there is a small rubber plug. Remove the plug this gives you access to the star adjuster. With the wheel off the ground , use a flat screw driver to spoon up the adjuster. they make a tool called a brake spoon but i have just used a screw driver. Adjust it out until you feel the brakes putting drag on the wheel as you spin it.

Put it in reverse and drive backwards, stopping the truck with only the parking brake. Come to a complete stop. Release the parking brake. Repeat. Do it 4-6 times in a row. See if that doesn't take care of it.

Correct don't adjust your parking brake!
Check the rear brake shoes, make sure they are in good condition. Clean them and then adjust the shoes. Search here in the brake forum you will find lots on information on adjusting the rear brakes. Your pedal will be better and the parking brake will work fine.

My 2005 Sequoia's parking brake won't stop the vehicle at all. Brakes passed inspection 4 months ago, we always use the parking brake but it hasn't self adjusted (or has reached the end of its adjustment ability). Is the star adjuster the next logical step? Have been searching the forums and Googling my ball bearings off, but no detailed step by step instructions with pictures. Despite the fact that the problem seems pretty widespread. Any help will be appreciated.

I used your article to fix my 2002 Tundra front brakes,I did it in about 2 hours and what a difference. Thanks for making it easy to follow.
I do notice some brake pedal pulsating and replaced the rear drums with a store brand as I'm not cutting an out of round drum.Within a few days it was back again and seems these cheap Chinese metal drums can't handle the heat buildup and dissipate it.I considered replacing with another set from Toyota but I'm not confident in the quality from those any more and they are priced outrageous.Have you had any luck with any aftermarket brand?
Thanks again, Jim
