Question Brake Wear on 06 Tundra

Hey all,

I was just at my dealer and they said that my brakes were about done and that I would need new pads and rotors at my next service. The truck is a 06 Tundra DC 4*4. I currently have 26K on the truck and will have 30K when the brakes are replaced. I don't tow anything, and other than hauling around tools (contractor), the truck is not worked very hard. IS this a reasonable service life for these brakes? I had brake squeal problems around 15K, but they said it was dirty brakes and they cleaned them. I have other trucks (Not Toyotas), like a Ford F550 with 30K on it and the brakes are still fine. That truck is always full with 4 tons of stone, or towing 10,000lbs. Thanks

my pads were out at 28k and they repaced them for free and turned the rotors.
i now have 50K and they are vibrating. tundra brakes suck.
i dont care what anyone says.

Unless the rotors are worn to the min. thickness spec. or are badly warped, I dont see a reason why the dealer would recommend replacing them. I have an 06 DC 4x4 with 34k on it and i had to replace the front pads at 12k. I resurfaced the rotors myself and installed new pads. No problems with warped rotors so far! Your best bet is to have the dealer give you the measurements on your rotors as compared to the minimum thickness spec. That will help you decide whether or not replacement is truly needed or that the dealer is just trying to line their pockets with your money. Another note: make sure to keep the rear brakes well adjusted so as to get the most life out of your new brakes.

I agree, unless the rotors have been machine before they should not need replaced. If you have no pulsation problems or damage to the rotor, you likely don't even need the rotors machined at all. Just replace the pads.
