Default Need help replacing rotors on 1998 4Runner....

Guys, I need some help removing the OEM rotors from our 1998 4Runner. Could I receive some info out of the repair manual to get this done. Tips are also very welcome.

I will be putting on a pair of Baer Decela Rotors.

Thanks!

John

Does it have manual locking hubs?

Well I am not sure how the rotors on a '98 4 Runners is set up. General Toyota 4WD truck are attached one of two ways. Early models used re-packable tapered roller bearings. These vehicles used a manual hub (you need to get out and turn a knob on each front wheel to fully engage the FWD). Later trucks had self locking hubs and this was not necessary. You can tell if you have this type by a center hub the protrudes through the wheel. On this type getting the rotor off is quite a job and is easiest with the help of a special socket.
The most recent type is just like the Tundra and uses permanent packed wheel bearings. On this type you will have no protruding hub and the rotor simply slides off the studs once the caliper is removed.

Thanks Mike. I heard that on our 4runner it should just slide of as you state (it also has no protruding hub so I'm good). Will be receiving the rotors in a few more days.
