Default Front brake job

I went to Firestone for an estimate for a front brake job. The service person recommended a brake system flush. He told me that the brake fluid gets contaminated with metallic particles. Was he telling the truth? Is it necessary to get the brake system flush everytime I get a brake job done? My car is a Nissan Altima with 182,000 miles on it.

Default Re: Front brake job

Yes, you should have it flushed with that many miles on it.

No, it does not get contaminated with metal per se'. Rather, it builds up moisture from heating & cooling cycles and, in turn, can produce rust which can contain metal particles.

The moisture is the problem, and the enemy in a contained system.

Shop around for competent brake shops. Prices will vary and quality work will be few & far between.

Good luck!
