Default 2002 brake upgrade,problems

I took my 2002 tundra 4x4 in to upgrade the front brakes. At 99K mi., the front rotors needed replaced so I decided to order the parts and have the dealer install them.
THe parts totalled around $565: 221.Raybestos Calipers from Rockauto, 197 from Toyotaparts world for pads, shems, 2 tubes, 4 bolts and 2 backing plates, and 130 for Brembo rotors from importparts.

I was told around $250 or so for labor. ANd I did tell them I was intending to put the new larger backing plates on. Next thing I know I'm receiving calls from the dealer that they can't get th bearing off one side and it's taking a lot of time. They had to use the torch on one side and it took much effort. I got another call alerting me that the cost will run $1000 for labor if they do the other side . I told them to forget the other side and just cut or fabricate the existing smaller backing plate so the larger calipers will fit. This worked but now I'm waiting for them to order parts for the side they did and the labor will now run around $550.

Is there any recourse from Toyota? I've read there is a TSB(bulletin) but this isn't the same as a recall for the 2000-02 trucks with the too small calipers. I tried to do it right and I suppose I'll have to incur the costs but why can't toyota help me out? The dealer apparently wasn't aware of this or they would have warned me of the involvement. This dealership has always worked with me and doesn't do unnecessary work without asking me first. I guess they haven't upgraded that many early model tundras and that's why they couldn't give me a precise price and what they would have to do.

I've read a lot on this site and I know about the cutting of the existing backing plates to fit the new calipers but I wasn't aware of the labor and cost involved in trying to do this job right. It's almost to the point I should have just traded this truck for an '05. I love this truck's body style and superior ergonomics of the dash, the handling ect over the larger new tundra.

Has anyone gotten a credit or help with the labor for the brake upgrade? I called Toyota corporate but all they ask for is the "VIN" and I know my truck deosn't have a recall for brakes, according to your site. So are there any solutions or just forget fighting because it isn't worth it and I'll lose? Toyota knew this truck wasn't right...they upgraded the brakes in 2003.
