Default INSTALLED!! New brake system 2010 Tundra...

Just installed: Power Slot Cryo Rotors, SSBC Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines, Hawk LTS pads. Really blew away my expectations. I trailer fairly often. and wanted a little stronger pedal feel. There were times with and without trailers that I would have to brake VERY hard and found my pedal didnt give me the response I needed. Also, after "Turning" or "Resurfacing" the OEM rotors the first time, it seemed like they would warp very easily afterwards.

Now witht this new setup, the brakes feel same as OEM backing out of the garage and first stop or so. Then they are warmed up and are what I would say is a full 50% strength increase from stock. So far so good...

I'm considering the same setup for my truck. Did you do the install yourself? If so, how easy/complicated is it to swap out the brake lines? Do you think the SS lines made much of a difference in pedal feel. I've always felt the Tundra's brakes, while very strong, do not have very good pedal feel. What I mean is that they seem mushy at times and the pedal travel is way too long for my tastes. I've felt this way when the truck had 50 miles on the odo and I still feel the same way now that I have 35K.

The whole reason I decided to use the stainless lines is for exactly what you are experiencing. I felt the same way about the stock pedal feel, especially under a firm braking. The lines made a huge difference. Coming from a motorcycle background, i knew what a dramatic difference the stainless lines make. I did not install myself. I actually went to the local dealership where I have a good relationsihp and asked them to install. The lines were the biggest pain in the entire kit. There are 6 brake lines to be replaced; each has to be bled by hand and then by some sort of machine/computer from toyota. Now the pedal is very firm and feels strong like the brakes should have from the factory.

Same reason I personally run the lines as well. The stock pedal feel regardless of the pads and rotors I ran always felt a bit on the soft side, with some play in the pedal prior to engagement. After swapping to stainless lines and Dot 4 brake fluid, its is much tighter. The brakes are smoother engaging and easier to modulate.

Even a small amount of expansion in a rubber brake line can make it feel mushy or soft. The stainless lines have no give and produce a firmer feel. I have used them in the past with great results and will put them on my Tundra when I do my next brake job.

A tip about bleeding if you're working by yourself. After installing your new brakes and braided lines, or anytime you open up the brake system and let air in for that matter, top off the master cylinder and then crack the bleeders on the calipers. Brake fluid will flow through on it's own by gravity and take the air out with it. 90% of the time I get a perfect pedal doing this alone. Of course never let the master run dry.

Another thing I like to do is use a turkey baster and pull the old fluid out of the master, wipe it clean and then dump new fluid in before bleeding. It's good to change out that old fluid every couple years.
