Default new tundra owner and tsb brake

I'm a new owner of a 2000 Tundra with approx 50K miles. I purchased this as tow vehicle for a small travel trailer. This is my fourth Toyota so I wasn't expecting to discover a very dangerous brake vibration problem after about 2 weeks of ownership. Apparently, many of you have experienced this issue first hand after reading various forums. I've since discovered Toyota TSB BR003-00 that's suppose to address the problem.

My local dealer told me that I'd have to pay for parts and service since my vehicle has over 32K miles. The replacement oem (gold plated) brake kit prices out to $2000.

In searching thru TS, I didn't find a lot of info regarding your experience with Toyota, your local dealer and the tsb brake fix. I was wondering if any of you have been able to get Toyota to pay for the fix? Any ideas or suggestions?

Given that this issue is potentially life threatening and a huge black eye for toyota quailty, one would think the corporation would step up to the plate take more responsibility.

i see you recently joined...try your search again, as of a couple days ago, you can see titles but not thread data as a registered member. i've got several threads with tsb experiences, data, alternate fixes, etc. but they are only viewable as a club member, sorry mang .

however, i guarantee you will find everything you're looking for, as well as a way to not spend that two thousand dollars for the same ol' toyota stuff. sounds like your dealer is out for a buck...also, i though it was 36K, but i could be wrong. the actual TSBs and whatnot are here on the site as well, i could post the links but like i said you wont be able to view them yet.

if you still have the non-TSB calipers, ive had very good results using pads and rotors from wheeler's offroad, talk to gary wheeler, he'll set you up...ive been running crossdrilled rotors and nonmetallic pads for the last 40K miles without a problem, they replaced warped/juddering rotors and worn pads.

There has been a lot of discussion about brakes over the years here at ts.com. For the 2000 MY Tundra there have been a number of brake TSB's issued, they are:

BR004-02 - FRONT BRAKE VIBRATION (REVISED)
BR003-02 - REAR BRAKE VIBRATION
BR001-01 - REAR BRAKE VIBRATION
BR006-00 - REAR BRAKE VIBRATION
BR003-00 - FRONT BRAKE VIBRATION

In all cases:

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

Fixing after warranty has expired is a judgement call by your dealer or regional rep.

welcome to t/s,

The fix is very easy you need to update the calipers .The tundra for 2000 up to 2002 (before sept) had a bad design flaw on the brakes and required replacements every 3 to 4 k on miles i too was getting tired of this and notified toyota 2 to 3 times on this issue at first there were cool about it and changed all the part's for free but that still didnt take care of my problem .The problem lies within the calipers themselves and as of sept 2002 toyota updated to newer brake caliper that has been working so far so well it aint perfect but it takes care of a lot of the issues on the brakes. My tundra has had 7 brake job's and even a factory rep had to come to the dealership to check the problem's out so far the problem's seem's to be fixed after it took me a wile to call the right people and talk to toyota about it...customer service isnt that bad just got to talk with them forward and direct and dont take there bs..
