Default Rotors

I understand you being upset about having problems with your truck. Trucks are expensive and you don't expect things like that to go wrong for such a hefty price tag.
Right now I'm mad enough at my current truck that I'm switching to a Toyota. Right now, I have a '98 Dodge Dakota with 57k miles. I've had problems with rotors warping prematurely (this seems to be universal these days), they've replace my front drive shaft assembly, I had to have the transfer case rebuilt at 56k miles, and I've had the upper and lower ball joints replaced twice! The worst part about it is, Daimler/Chrysler does nothing about the ball joint design, even though this is a huge problem among Dakotas and Durangos. Just do an internet search and you will see what I mean. Oh yeah, my rear differential is kinda noisy right now. I've been told two different things: 1. Rearend noise is typical for a Dodge and doesn't necesarily indicate a problem. 2. This indicates that there is a problem. It could fail fairly soon or go another 30k miles before it fails.
I've had fairly good luck with Ford trucks, and no experience with GM trucks. The reason I'm looking at Toyota is because of unbiased statistics (such as those publised in Consumer Reports) tell me that the Toyota is the least likely to give me problems.

TSB's have nothing to do with covered repairs.

My understanding of a TSB is that it usually identifies a problem (and it's repair) that is common to the same vehicle. If you are under warranty (regular or extended) and have a problem with your vehicle, then it will be fixed free of charge (depending on warranty coverage level) regardless of whether a TSB has been issued or not. If a TSB has been issued for a problem that you are not yet experiencing, then you won't receive a "preventative" repair. The problem will be repaired under warranty if it ever presents itself (which is usually the day after your warranty expires). So TSB's really have nothing to do with whether your problem will be fixed at no charge. It's purely a function of your warranty.

If your warranty is expired, then you pay for all repairs, TSB or not, unless there has been a recall.

Thumbs down Been awhile

These are the problems that I have had in the last 22 months.
1. Warped breaks. The truck shakes very bad
2. The CV boats replaced TWICE! this time it is not under warrenty and it runs $366.00
3. Leaking power stearing pump and lines.
4. AC making loud noises and leaking into truck all over the floor.
It seams to me that they took a tacoma and put a V8 in it. the brakes are not beefed up for towing or hauling. The suspension is soft and bottoms out with min. payload in the back. The transmission feels suspect, and the guy at the shop told me they are very tempremental? what ever that is supposed to mean.

Thumbs down

It's been a long time since I've been here. My username here tells you what I think of this truck. Glad I checked the thread on the extension on the O2 sensors, since my damn check engine light came on again when they just replaced to O2 sensor along with the cracked manifold. I have had all the brake problems too, all they did was turn the rotors. Regional rep flat out refused to do the TSB's. Still vibrating.

I keep hearing a LOT about warping rotors on what seems to be every make of truck and heavy vehicle out there lately. My dad is a die-hard Ford man and me being the die-hard Tie-yota (as he calls it) man, I, of course have to bring up differences between the 2. He was telling me the other day that he had to have the rotors warranty replaced on their new 2004 Expedition because they warped. Is there some epidemic of crappy rotors out there? I've got about 52k on my 01' Tundra and haven't had any issues with them yet, but ever since reading so many posts about it, I'm paranoid about it now.

Junktundra, sorry you've had some bad experiences with your truck. There's always going to be lemons and I'm afraid you got one. Maybe it's karma. Kick any cats lately?

You say all they did was turn the rotors when they were warped? How retarded is that? Was that a dealership that pulled that? Great, they're flat again, but the entire rotor is still warped and the force from them being cockeyed will do nothing but continue to degrade the entire brake assembly.

As far as that regional rep goes, if that piece of doodie refused to honor the TSB's then he needs a boot right square in his a$$. There's always somebody higher up than the turds that pull stuff like that to report it to.

I too have heard enought about the brakes issue, i've had my share and run in with toyota motor sales to fix the problem. If the regional rep doesn't do anything go above his head and call toyota and complain. it's like how they treated me and buy me off on one truck payment (as a good will) and fix the brakes for free with the same parts that are faulty. let's just say i ain't a sucker (7 times in shop) and certain not stupid to tell toyota that the brakes were in need of a serious upgrade or else see what others actions i have in store for them and that isn't going to be a pretty site. Toyota called me back and stated that on sept 02 a newly relesed updated was out on the brakes and i will be getting this upgrade for free regardless of miles (i got my tundra new and was over 36k). The updates were phased in on all 03 tundra built after sept 02 as a 03 model year. For those still affected with brake issues my advice be forward and don't take bs from anybody. sorry i have to be that way, but in my book i buy a truck and pay more than a gm or ford i expect service within toyota motor corp to be good not poor with a disregard to customers and toyota. not putting the blame on why my brakes are messed up. sorry it doesn't work that way in my book when i see countless other with the same problem you think.
