Default 2003 Tundra Front Brakes Problems!

Hello,

I have a question on the front brakes of my tundra. At about 30,000 I needed to get my front brakes replace, so i decided to take it to toyota to get it fixed(i like to have on the dealer touch my truck until its out of warrenty). Needless to say it turned to be more than just the pads. One of my rotters had "hot spots" on them and needed to be replace, but toyota would not replace just one roter. They said rotters need to be replaced in pairs. So I said "F*** You" and took it else where. I found out that my truck had larger than normal, they had to special order my brake pads...

I was just wonder if this "heat Spot" problem could have been caused a issue with the brake system??

I was also wonder since my truck is getting close to the warrenty ending if anyone knows if the larger brake pads, are a fix of the brake problems tundras have or if they are they need to be fixed???

Thanks for you help with this, I called Toyota Corp. and they told me they could not help me that TBS are only to help to dealer fix problems and not recalls or mantory warrenty, so the dealership to choose whether or not the tell you about them or even fix them for free!!!

The larger pads are on the late 2003 -2005 Tundra's. The earlier models had smaller calipers which were changed out to the ones you have on Tundra's with repeated front brake problems.

The industry standard designation for the smaller pads for the 2000 to early-2003 calipers is D812. The designation for the late-2003 to present calipers and TSB calipers is D976.

There are very few high performance D976 pads available. Wheeler's (top of this page) has excellent Porterfield pads. Performance Friction will have these pads in January. If there is any company you'd like D976 pads from, I'd suggest emailing or telephoning them directly...Hawk, PraiseDyno, etc.

Akebono has their ProACT ceramic pads in both sizes, as does Beck/Arnley which I believe are actually PBR/Axxis Premium. Wagner and Raybestos have both size pads in several quality levels.

I agree with replacing brake rotors in pairs.
