Default 38,000 mile Rear Brake Inspection Results...

    Hey Gang,

For those of you who have replaced your front brake pads and wondered how the rear shoes are doing...

I replaced the pads at 28,500 miles. A Toyota Master Tech was in the cashiers office when I was there so I asked about the rears. He said they will be fine for a long time...

I pulled the rear drums today at 38,000 miles and found a tremendous amount of friction material remaining on the shoes. Around a 1/4 inch I would say. I don't know how thick the shoe material is to start with but I would guess I'm good for at least 60-70,000 miles on the shoes.

FYI...the drums fit very tight to the backing plate, there was lots of brake dust inside. Blasted the whole thing out with BG Brake Cleaner...clean as new!

    Brad

The rear shoes probably will last 100K if you don't tow. However, I would change then out every other front disk pad change. The shoe material does get heat fatigued and turns to rock - making the rear drums less effective and grabby.
