BrakesDiscussions about the brake system in your vehicle and brake products.
This is a discussion thread titled "Upgrade your early Tundra Brakes In 1 hour", within the Brakes forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
P/N FRC11549 & FRC11550
Front Left & Right semi loaded.
They make loaded also, I think same part number without the "F".
Did these Raybestos calibers work out? I recently found out that my truck still had the original calipers.......BTW, I asked Atlanta Toyota (who did the pre-purchase) if this had been upgraded to an answer of "yes," further bolstering my idea that honest people are barred from working at dealerships.

Atlanta Toyota Stealer ship are Honest is that a Joke LOL .. I find the service in the Atlanta area to be somewhat lose until i call Corp and make a few complaint's. The overall issues is we deal with Southeast Toyota and that to some extent may be the core problems since thing's aren't resolved in a fast manner from the dealership Usually You have to get a Rep involved on fixing problem's and handling them right. I too am not happy with the service treatment in this area I find them questionable and People tend to be flakey and Not call back in a timely manner..

Leland, if when you purchased the truck and they told you it had the updated brakes and now you find out it didn't, I think you have the ammunition for a serious complaint.
Take Erik's advise and call corp tell them your story and make a case. There is a good chance you can get them to authorize the upgrade to be done at no cost to you. After all they misled you.

Been there, done that, been told to "get bent." Basically, I bought the truck out of warranty from a private seller, as-is. The receipt from the PPO from ATL Toyota says it doesn't guarantee anything in the inspection.
I SHOULD also mention that the PPO didn't expressly mention this on paper. I asked before the inspection and was verbally told afterwards. Guess who's coming forward to say they said this?????? Actually, it's kinda my fault for not being diligent enough to see what the improper calipers looked like. I should've known to take care of everything myself.
This is why, when my wife wanted a Lexus, I bought a BMW. Well, that and I can find BMW parts for about 1/3 price of Toyota parts (in all fairness, I've owned a BMW for 10 years and learned a lot of ins & outs).
I'm not sure I'd want the morons at Atlanta Toyota to work on this truck anyway. I did the 60k myself, and some of the half-a$$ed stuff I saw was ridiculous. I personally liked seeing the valve covers placed directly on the heads without a gasket. The spark plugs installed w/o any anit-sieze was another one. I don't know that I'd trust those guys to put gas in it.
I now see your situation. When I bought mine I didn't even know about the brake issue, I found out after getting on this forum. I didn't go back to the dealer about it because after being a brake Technician for 25 years I simply don't let other touch my brakes, I've seen all the stupid mistakes that can happen. Plus I knew there was a simpler and cheaper way to do this instead of the way shown in the tech bulletin and buying all new parts from Toyota.
Well, It doesn't take much to do the upgrade yourself, the only thing out of the ordinary is the trimming of the backing plates. Good luck with your upgrade.

Yes, those calipers did work. Mine were semi loaded. I did buy caliper bolts from the dealer. I also bought the brake tubes from the dealer. After looking at them compared to the old ones, I think the old ones could have still worked, but they were not very expensive. I did not get a shim kit from the dealer (they wanted $40) for them. My ceramic brake pads (Raybestos) came with shims, so I was good to go.
Tip #1 Have a sharp pair of tin snips for cutting the backing plate. It will make the job much easier.
Tip #2 Find a rubber plug to plug up the brake line after you remove the old caliper. I found that the rubber cap that covers the bleeder screw fit perfectly into the brake line and prevented fluid from leaking.
Tip #3 Use a flare nut wrench to prevent rounding the tube nut fitting.
So far so good. Improved pedal feel with no vibration at high or low speeds. Time will only tell if the upgrade helps.
Was it the calipers that caused the vibration in the first place? I thought I read that someone posted that they did not change out their rotors. Wasn't it the rotors warping due to ineffective calipers that caused the vibrations?
The calipers are larger, simply more mass. Mass helps dispense heat even if it is the caliper. They also allow for a different pad.
Other wise the calipers are hydraulically the same, same size pistons and same number of pistons.

Anybody know of a website where I can order these parts online?
And another question. Some sites don't list SW13E and 13WL calipers, but some say 231mm and 199mm.
Am I to assume that the 231mm = 13WL and the 199mm = the SW13E?

Sorry to repost if this has been asked some where else but I havn't found it yet.
I am about to do my front brake upgrade. I am ordering parts from a local supplier, if I ask for calipers/pads/rotors/brake lines from a 2004 will I get the correct parts for the upgrade?
Yes, 2004 and up all came with the larger calipers. The rotors have never changed and are all the same up to when the new Tundra came out.

Believe it or not A/C Delco is not just GM any more. They are hard at work becoming a parts distributor, a reboxer like Beck-Arney. You can't even count on thier GM lines being OEM quality any more. They buy from the cheapest supplier to compete. I have gotten many A/C parts made all over the world.
I will try and get a Raybestos 07 cataloge an see how they list things. But this may take a few weeks.
