Ok I am getting ready to purchase to parts to do this.
I have one question. Does it make sense to purchase the loaded caliper since it is only $25 more?

I am looking at the Raybestos Loaded caliper which is approximately $100 and the unloaded caliper which is $75.
Seems that the loaded caliper would be a better choice since I can't buy the pads themselves for $25.
Is there any advantage/disadvantage to buying the caliper already "loaded" (besides not getting a choice of which brake pad to use)?

Raybestos makes some of the best aftermarker brake pads. I do prefer to use Toyota pads so this is why I recommend Semi loaded, Raybestos calls them friction ready.

If anyone is still doing this swap, I would be interested in purchasing the 199mm SW13E calipers (including all hardware, pins etc.) for my 3rd Gen 4runner. I am looking for the rotors as well. Shoot me a PM. Thanks!

Just another option buybrakes.com has NHT calipers that appear smoother and powder coated (red, black, silver or yellow) a pair runs about 440. They don't have the Tundra listed but do have the Sequoia and the upgraded casting listed. Think I might get some, they come with everything but the pads, just ordered some braided stainless lines from Summit, so gradually collecting parts.

Just wanted to give an update. I just did the full upgrade on my 00 Tundra last night for under $400. Thank you all for the information, its so nice being able to go down the road without any vibrations. Turns out I did not need the new brake lines. If any one needs my original calipers PM me.

Mike,

I just replaced the front brake system on my 2001 Tundra yesterday, per your original post instructions. Everything went very smoothly, so thanks to you for your thorough directions. I have only one caveat: after bleeding the lines, my brake pedal now seems quite a bit "softer" than before. My truck stops fine, I just have to push the pedal further down than before to engage the brakes. Did you have any trouble with this? I re-bled the lines 2 additional times to make sure there was no air in them, but still have the "soft" brake pedal.

A buddy of mine who helped surmised it might have to do with the master cylinder? But we were both guessing.

Thanks, Miles

The TSB calipers are four piston and are hard to bleed.

While your bleeding them tap on them with a rubber mallet.

EBC Sucks do not buy them. They are cheap china made rotors and will SHAKE your car to pieces. Push me EBC I will send you pics of rotors after 2K miles that would not have enough material to be turned. You suck from start to finish. Your customer service does not exist. Everything is the installers fault. Okay maybe but when OEM lasted 77K yours lasted 2 and Autozone lasted another 4 and still going. Yours suck. Do not buy EBC. They suck.

True, it is quite common on 4 piston calipers for tiny air bubble to get caught around the pistons. Just tap the calipers with your bleeder wrench. The vibration can jar the bubbles loose.
It's also possible if you let the master cylinder run low that air is caught in the master. If this is the case try bleeding the master by loosening the lines just enough to release the pressure as someone hold the pedal down.
Lastly make sure you have adjusted the read brakes. IF they are out of adjustment the pedal will definitely pump up.
