Default 2001 Brake Drum TSB

Can you upgrade the 01 Tundra's rear brake drum to the thicker mass drum by just installing the 03-05 drum and shoe set? Or is the backing plate completely different between these models?

TSB BR003-02 list the heavy mass rear brake drum part number 42431-34021 as a direct replacement from '00 -'05. I put these drums on my '01 Tundra without changing the shoes or anything else. They were a direct fit.

Mike, should the drums be gotten from the dealer, they want $170 each for them?
Also, how do you know if you have the updated calipers, mine were changed in 02,
but they (Toyota) are not sure if they were the new ones?

Thanks
Mark
