Default 2001 tundra brake drum shim question

Hi, Iam thinking of replacing my rear brake drum with a brembo brake drum, do I need the paper shim or can I just eliminate that? or do I replace the brake drum with an original toyota ? Iam not having any vibration problem but I just wanted to get new barke drum to replace the old one and have the old turned so next time I have a replacement brake drum at hand.

thanks

My personal opinion is it can go away. Manufactures used to put clips on the wheel studs to hold the drums on while it moved down the production line. That was there only purpose in life and they used to be a bear to get em off.
I am imagine Toyota put them on for rattle/vibration control. With better drums plus I never found a need for the paper in old days you should be ok.

Thanks for the quick reply, I was thinking of taking the paper shim off and putting some kind of lubricating oil so the drum won't stick in the future.

thanks

Copper anti seize is good on brake pins etc.

You can do away with the shim, it's only there to help prevent the drum from rusting to the axle flange. Prenetrating oil will be absolutely useless in this application, you need to use grease or preferably anti-seize, either copper or the grey works just fine. Apply the anti-seize to the axle flange and the part of the axle flange which protrudes through the drum since that's such a tight fit, a small amount of corrosion can make it a bear to get off. I also recommend some anti-seize on the drum where the rim makes contact so that the rim wont stick to the drum.
