yea, I meant to put "customer participation fee" in qoutes. Why do you think I paid it!? To get my freakin truck back. Pretty much grateful at that point to get my problem fixed with the truck 31,000 miles outta warranty.

At this point I'd pay up to half the cost with all the miles on the truck. Like you, I would be happy to shell out $100 for the "customer participation fee."

I just had my brakes done in the front because I started to get the pulsating when stopping at highway speeds. I did not know about the TSB nor did the dealer mention it! The cost was $300. with parts (pads, kit and turn rotors). Not knowing about the TSB ,did I get screwed? Whats my next move. BTW what is a TSB? Is this a full blown recall? My truck only has 28000 miles. deserttoy
Truck had 83,000 when i had the TSB done, my "customer participation fee" was $350.00 which i thought was a good deal.
All part's including new rotors.

TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin. Your brake job probably should have been under warranty. Try this telephone number for more info, and if you don't get the answer that you get your money back and the new brake TSB performed for you, keep trying 1-800-GO TOYOTA
2002 Ltd bought new in July '02 w/8K miles on it now-
The last time I was in I mentioned that my brakes felt weird when I was in stop 'n go traffic sometimes. They kept my truck for the whole day to check it out. The shop foreman couldn't duplicate my "trbl" so he said no to the TSB. Two weeks later I get a postcard saying "my parts were in". My service guy stated to me that he "felt that I got the run around last time", so he worked on his boss to help me out. (Commission can be a good thing..!!)
They want me to come in as soon as I can to do the Brake TBS.
Besides the bearing "tool" and the back plates, is there anything else I should make sure gets done..?? (Or doesn't get done..!)
I would like to collect some data regarding the latest brake TSB. I would like to know if the job was done to your satisfaction and how has this new caliper been working out for you. Theres been a lot of concerns about a-arm damage (collected from comments on this thread: http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...6949#post86949) due to Toyota service techs' lack of knowledge on proper procedures and neglect to using the correct tool to do the job right w/o damaging the above mentioned component (even my girlfriend knows about this tool, here dad is a garage mechanic). I even saw this first hand when they busted the ball joint on one of the arms on my friend's Tundra and tried to blame it on the person that installed the suspension modification. I am about to get this TSB done and I would like to be able to take this survey on hard-copy form to show to their service writer prior to letting them perform the TSB so that they are aware of this common bad practice and that hopefully would prompt them to do the job right. We should never have to remedy anything that they've screwed up on and require that these irresponsible service techs be accounted for their poor services.
I'll start the list with:
Findlay Toyota, Las Vegas Nevada. Damage: stripped left a-arm ball joint.
Foreclosin, you may add to this if you see this thread.
You guys are not going to believe this. Today I went in for a normal oil change. About forty min. later it was done. As I was getting into my truck the service manager came to me and said that I need new brakes. I said your kidding I just had them checked about a month ago and they said I have atleast 10,000 miles left. well before this I had asked them about the TSB and they would'nt help me. Well the manager said lets make an appointment to replace your brakes and we will say that you have constant vibration. I'll tell you what that made my day. This is the nicest thing they have ever done. Usually the are not too nice to me. The only thing I have to do is get it in before my 36,000 miles. I am a happy man.
I'm going in Dec.26th for my TBS work. I'll post my results. I'm going to be sure of that my dealer is aware of this BEFORE I let them touch my truck. JB
when toyota did my upgrade they ended up braking the a arm. they replaced it and did not say anything about my cornfeds. the only concern I have now is that since they have done the upgrade every once in a while I get this "binding" sensation. It has only happened a couple times and I can never reproduce it. I guess I will just have to crawl under the truck and take a look.
Brakes worked great but occasionally felt funny after a long time of stop 'n go traffic.......
TSB service, BR004-02, was completed @ W.C. Toyota Dec.27th.
They have one tech do all the brake TSB's @ dealer. They have all required tools for the job. Service tech wrote "Customer states that brakes pulsate when hot- second complaint" on W.O. I strongly requested that they replace my front rotors. Was told that they couldn't due to the low miles on truck and that they grinded them instead. All parts on the TSB were ordered and installed w/no visible damage to control arms. High speed braking is beautiful. They also gave me a rental car for one day and washed the truck afterward. Overall , another positive experience w/Toyota. This dealer also did a V-6 head gasket replacement on my '90 4-Runner in '98 w/65K miles on it w/o me asking for it. JB
I had the TSB done at the start of winter, where the cool air keeps the brakes cooler than in the summer. I don't think I'll make any final decisions concerning the TSB until the summer heat hits the brakes. I'm not sure of the other folks' weather conditions right now, but I would wait until your hotest time of the year to say yay or nay ;-)
thekurgan seems to be a smart man. Wating until summer is pure genius. After i had my TSB done i felt some vibration, but now that i have michelins on its smooth. I am worried about the summer though. I am in Arizona...
