BrakesDiscussions about the brake system in your vehicle and brake products.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra Brake TSB", within the Brakes forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
That brake light is not just for the parking brake. It also lights when the brake fluid is low, either due to a leak or from normal wear of the pads. As CJ said, check the level and maybe add some.
Took my truck to the dealer, told him the brakes were pulsating slightly. They immediately agreed after a short test drive and ordered the parts! I Love this dealership!!!!!!

You're one of the lucky ones. I just got back from my dealer for the 3rd time. He just replaced my rear drums with the new heavier ones, and at the same time informed me that he was ordering the parts for the front. I told him it was the front all along. Well, one more trip should do it. Actually this isn't too bad compared to some of the other horror stories.
Aren't most of the complaints coming from the NY and NJ areas? Seems like I've seen quite a few from that area, hmmm... Well, at least you're being taken care of. My dealer has always been great. I raised my truck 3", shortly afterward the CV boots started spitting grease. I stopped by the dealer, he said the lift probably caused it, but he would replace the boots anyway. He earned my business, I went back and purchased a 2003 Sienna Symphony for my wife!

O.K. Just got my truck back. They replaced everything. The bad thing is it took them 3 weeks. The machine shop had screwed up on a part that was'nt supposed to come off. The part was ordered and had to come from Japan. Insane!!! The total cost was 2,068.00 A small fortune. Brakes are good now!!!
Does anyone know what the new calipers would cost (just parts)? Are the current pads compatible?
I have my original calipers off the truck right now while my rotors are being turned by a machine shop.... I was due for new front pads soon, so I pulled the calipers to clean them and decided to have the rotors turned and then new Porterfield racing pads are going in...
Thanks for the input.

For those people who don't get the TSB done or can't get the TSB done for free....will Toyota still carry the original brake replacement parts (old style pads...etc)
Will people be forced to pay for the new design brake parts when their pads wear out?
For all you guys going in for the front brake TSB, you might want to get the new rear drums too. After spending about 1/2 hr talking to the service mgr, they finally agreed that they might as well do all the brakes. This was after making 2 prior visits and road tests for brake problems. Like other dealers, mine seemed to be unaware of the bulletins and never had a complaint before. This is strange because they move alot of Tundras off their lot.

You are right. I am going to have my front brakes done this week but when I asked what all they were going to do they said just the fronts. I mentioned the rear brakes and they told me that they had done evething to them on the last brake job. I checked the TSB's and I have not had the new bigger drums yet. Unless that was part of the TSB with the star adjuster, but I don't think they had the newer drums then?? They done that work in April.

I think they would still have these parts. I would think these are used on some of the other Toyota's.

Am I missing something? I checked all the brake TSBs and found nothing about replacing the drums with other than original part #s.
Please fill me in if I missed something. I had heard rumors of replacing drums with 4runner drums, but have seen nothing in the TSBs

Are the current generation pads compatible with what? The older style 2000-2002 calipers? No. The new style calipers addressed by TSB BR004-02 are longer and have a longer set of pads than the previous version. TSB BR001-03 issued January 8, 2003 addresses the caliper and pad part numbers for the different versions out there.
