BrakesDiscussions about the brake system in your vehicle and brake products.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra Brake TSB", within the Brakes forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
What the heck could be the cause? I was kind of afraid of this since I didn't have any problems before the TSB but I thought I'd have it done for preventative sake.
Now I've got a shudder during braking from highway speeds. All they did was the front brake TSB with grinding. Maybe the new brakes need adjusting????
The green calipers, are these what everyone is referring to as the "big brake kit"? The reason I ask is on the old calipers I had switched to Raybestos ceramic pads. I really like them but when they did the TSB, the dealer said they would no longer fit? Anyone have any further clarifiaction on this?
The new calipers are completely redesigned and your old pads will no longer fit the new calipers. Here's a comparison picture of the old calipers on the left and the new ones on the right...
Just wondering that since we have different brake calipers, what will happen if we want to use aftermarket brake pads such as Porterfield kevlar pads, etc. I wonder if these products would be available for the new calipers. I'll probably email wheeler's offroad and find out.
After mine was done i have felt no difference. Funny...i have an 03 and i still got it done....oh well...i never felt a shudder @ all but they did the TSB anyway. And the funny thing is, when i took it in i totally forgot to ask them. They just asked me and showed me the TSB paper.
That's odd because to get the TSB you have to present to them your complaints regarding the vibrations you feel when braking and if they can duplicate the problem then that qualifies your truck for TSB. It's a very costly repair so they won't perform it unless you truly have the brake issues. I guess some dealers are different than others.

When I got my TSB done, I went in for them to check on my exhaust manifolds and my brakes (just an inspection - I had no vibrations).
When I picked up my truck, they said my manifolds had no leaks but my brakes were fried (only 11k miles or so from my first brake TSB)! I had no idea how this could happen and neither did they, as my pads were still thick and the rotors had hardly any wear and no hot spots.
I don't know if they said all this just so I would have to get new brakes (thinking I would have to pay since they had no clue about the new TSB) or what. I had to show them a copy of the TSB and when I did, they had not seen it and had no clue about it. So, it looks like they actually helped my cause when they told me my brakes were fried, but probably wanted to take their diagnostic results back when I whipped out a TSB on them.
To make a long story short, I got the new TSB done with no vibration problems either! Every dealer is different I guess!

That's really hilarious for a dealer to set themselves up for a major repair that they'll have to cover because of their own findings. And for them to think that they are screwing you over and you have no choice, yet you got your own winning card up your sleeve. It's like winning big on a casino game.
