How many times have you had it in for brake vibrations? Is this something you have documented as a problem with the dealership? If so, they should provide the upgrade under warranty.
Well I bought my truck about two weeks ago and its Toyota Certified, for whatever that’s worth. Plus I purchased the wrap around warranty on top of the 6 year 100,000 K given to me on the major stuff.
I just got off the phone with the service department at Carson Toyota. I told them that my Tundra is having vibrations when I hit the brakes. I mentioned to him that there is a NEW TSB that will replace the calipers and the rotors and other hardware.
He said that the TSB BR004-02 ONLY applies to the Sequoia and not the Tundra.
If anyone can help me find a dealer in California that will do the TSB on the Tundra I will appreciate it.
Originally posted by awesometundra He is either ignorant or he outright lied to you. the TSB clearly states that it applies to the Tundra. Call them back and press the issue....
I would like to have a copy of the TSB. The one posted in the Sequoia solutions only includes the first page and only mentions the 2001-2002 Sequoias. Where can I get a copy?
BR003-02 Rear Brake Vibration and BR004-002 Front Brake Vibration are for Tundra's. There were 2 other recent brake TSB's for Sequoia.

3 weeks ago I took my truck back to the selling dealer, Geweke Toyota in Lodi. They kept the truck 2 days and replaced the calipers, pads bolts and brake lines without anything but apologies and courtesy. I had 26,000 miles on it. The invoice is TOCS..... which I think is a Tech Service #.
Call him back. Make sure you have in your case file that you consider it a "serious safety issue," and inform them you
I did.....and now I am beginning to understand exactly what has been going on, and why it has been a fight to get anything done on my truck.
I haven't yet been able to get an exact date, but it appears that sometime between going to arbitration and falling out of warranty, that Gulf Coast Toyota has ear-marked my truck/name with a big black "X". I haven't been able to find out the exact contents of their submission to Toyota National, and you can bet I'll be on the phone monday. Right now, all I know is that "no assistance at this point" is Toyota's statement due to input from the Gulf Coast Toyota regional or district rep.
I went to my dealer (R&G Toyota in San Rafael, CA) and complained about the front brake vibrations. At 14,000 miles, my brakes have vibrated for about six months, but I didn't know about the TSB until last week. My dealer told me my front pads were worn (despite 14000 highway miles only) and that the vibration was from "poor heat dissipation."
I told him I knew about the TSB, and he said he did too, so he would order the parts. When I went in to pick up the truck, after reciving a call that it was ready, I was told that Toyota Engineers had measured my calipers with a micrometer, and they were "within specs." I would have to pay $350 for a front brake job, and they would not perform the TSB.
He told me that the original parts are "always" better, and that the TSB parts were just because Toyota is always changing their parts. I pointed out the fact that the TSB says the calipers have been "improved." He did not agree.
I paid for the brake job, and the vibrating is better (for the time being). I want to know if there really were any Toyota Engineers there. What did they measure? The replacement parts are redesigned, not just a replacement for a part that may be "out of spec," right?
At 14,000 miles you should not have to pay for a thing. My truck currently has 13,000 miles with vibrating brakes. I called my dealer and I will be bringing it in on Tuesday for the fix. They are also going to have a loaner car while they have my truck for repair. Ill let you know what happens.
TCTundra - call and arrange a meeting with the Service Manager and Regional Toyota Rep. At anything below 36K, you shouldn't have to pay for a thing. I hate to say it not knowing all of the circumstances, but you got fed a bunch of bull.
Toyota Dealers and Reps on this site should be absolutely enraged that a couple misguideed service centers and dealerships really put a bad name on a great product. Dealers and Service Reps on this site should contact this guy's dealership and express you're dissatisfaction with their performance and how they negatively effect all Dealerships. Most Dealerships are great places, with hard workers and honest folks who simply what your truck to perform right. Shame on the few that do "poor" work such as this!!
Unfortunately, the fish stinks from the head down.
I am certain Toyota has heard repeated complaints from the same delaerships/service departments. However, for the most part, they are virtually helpless to do anything about it. Somehow, someway, it is hidden way down deep in the licensing agreements.
Even within the dealership, again, the stink is at the top. Managers allow....even encourage...some of the behaviors reported all over this site.
I know that I used to work for a small sales organization who had an unspoken standing policy that they would not hire any sales people who had been in the car business...at any level.
I am not saying that all car sales people should be re-located to leper island....but there must be something to the personality and behavior traits to see this over and over.
