This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra Brake TSB", within the Brakes forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have a 2001 Tundra 4WD TRD SR5 access cab 33,000 miles and the local dealer has offered to do the front brake TSB on my truck even though I am not experiencing any brake problems at the moment. I feel I should take advantage of this offer before my warranty runs out. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated ....................Jerry
@hirschg; Do it, there's a Service Bulletin out there for a reason. Why would you question an upgrade/fix knowing you have faulty equipment whether it's acting up or not?
Does anyone happen to know the date that the TSB for the brake repairs came out for the 2001 Tundra? I've done a search and there's just too much to dig through.
Dealership is giving me the run around.
I know some of you guys are experts at this by now and I could use a little help.
I was on the way to my local dealer today to purchase new 2004 double cab and have my brakes repaired for the fourth or fifth time on my 2001 limited so they would work properly when I sold it. I purchased the extended warranty when I bought the vehicle and it only had 42k miles on it. Basically they said this would not be covered even under the extended warranty and there was nothing they could do for me. I told the salesman that I was talking to that I would not be buying the truck from them or anyone else and to have a good day. I think the guy started to cry when I left.
Toyota has the crappiest service I have ever had to deal with. I'll be at the Nissan dealersip if you need me.
You might tell them to try September 2002 and revised September 2003. I don't remember exact dates. For the cost of the repairs I think I would take some time and search the Handling, Suspension and Brakes forum. You can probably find the exact dates and TSB numbers.
Mike

Taking mine back in for the rear drums Thursday. I asked if I would have to pay(43,000 miles, over 3 years old) and they said yes. Then they said if it was definitely the rear drums they would turn them no charge since there is a 1 year part warranty and they replaced them about 3-4 months back. I asked if they had any new TSB or fixes and they said no ...Mitch
Went to the dealer today ,he drove the truck and said it was the front brakes again ,this makes 5 times the brakes have been repaired in a year and half ,this will be the third time after the tsb.The service manager said he will call toyota and ask how to proceed, he called me back and ask me to bring the truck in and let them try some things ,caliper retaining pin or something. If toyota can not fix the problem or keep the problem from coming back under warranty what recourse do we have?

Interesting . . . is this after the latest TSB where they upgrade to all new parts the same as used on the 2003 and newer Tundra? Does anyone know if the rotors are the same from the original Tundra's to the later models? I'm beginning to think that all they did was turn the old rotors and slap them back on my truck. Might explain why the new fix only lasted less than 6,000 miles before I started having the same problem over again. Now I'm told since they did the latest fix and the problem returned, it's not their problem . . . has to be something to do with my driving habits/conditions. (Funny it only affects my Tundra and not my Lexus or any other vehicle in the neighborhood!?)
Also, they did the TSB on the radio antena, and when I took it in not long ago and complained that the antena appeared to be loose again, I was told that was normal that they all are that way . . . even the new 2004 models. I'm beginning to think they have more excuses than solutions.

The last time I was there they replaced the front rotors ,rear drums ,the time before that they did the caliper tsb and new rotors.3k or so miles and the problems return,I wait another 2k miles until the problem gets worse before I go back to the dealer .I wonder if anyone has been successful with arbitration?

Yeah my delaer started that crap with me asking if I towed something. I hardly ever tow anything and if I did what the heck as long as I am not overloaded it should handle it. Thay only agreed to turn the drums again because of the 1 year replacement parts warranty. ..Mitch

Mine hasn't been a year, took it in after 9,000 miles, (Started up again after about 6,000 miles.), and they refuse to do anything. They obviously don't stand behind their work any more than they do behind their crappy product.

Mine was only about 3000 miles and about 3 months befor it stated shaking again, but if they replace a part whether you paid for it or it was under original factory warranty it come with a warranty. I am not sure but I think it is a year not sure about miles.

I DID!!! I was tired of the vibration and decided enough was enough. I took my truck to two dealerships a total of eight times. I have an 02 Tundra Access cab V8. The arbitrator just returned his decision in my favor. He awarded replacement or restitution. I opted for restitution.
