MARCH !!!! Who are they trying to kid. They can get a bearing tool in a lot less time than that, unless it's a 'Toyota only tool' (which is very doubtful) and even then I'd question it taking till March, seeing there is a TSB out on this. I'd ask to discuss with the Toyota Rep., contact Toyota directly and ask them, or find a new dealer.

Default don't mind

Right now they don't seem to be chattering. I will be monitoring them closely, and expect the problem to reoccur.
My March I will know for sure and I will want new brake pads too.

I don't understand the whole "March " thing. The reason I'm not bitching too loud is that I bought this truck used and I don't think it is covered under the 3yr 36K warranty.
It is a 2Wd 2000 V6 with 13K miles on it so they will still fix it for free, but I'm not rocking the boat as long as they fix it in March.

I wonder if the guy that posted earilier that had his done at Sloane Toyota in Glenside got the full job done or just the band-aid fix like me.
Maybe the tool is different for 4wd vs 2wd.

Until then I am going to enjoy the truck.
That truck is "TIGHT" !

I love it. Just put fog lights on it last Sat.

I have an over the rail pendaliner in it, and now I want to put a cover on it.

My truck was the first at the dealership I used to do the newest TSB, and the bearing issue did give them some problem, as he warned me in advance it might. They kept my truck overnight, I got a rental at no charge, and it was ready the next day.

I agree with earlier posts, March is not acceptable. I really think I'd explain my concerns to the service manager there, and if he continues to stall, I'd call Toyota Customer Service and/or go to another dealer.

Default Good Will

"Good Will" my eye!

I, too, have now been told that any further TSB repairs/work done to my brakes would be a "Good WIll" gesture from the regionals or the dealers. Once you clear 36k...Toyota National does a "Hands Off!".

What this tells me is that Toyota pulled off an incredible deal by limiting their liablility to "In-Warranty" only repairs.

BUT! I did speak with the President's Office and I an now very clear on a couple things. The lady I spoke with didn't do a 'pass-the-buck'...she simply told it like it is. She offered to contact the regional and dealer to encourage them to review my repair history. All-in-all, I felt she was on the level and doing what she could. (I did offer to sing and dance at her 25th Wedding Anniversary if she could get the TSB done!)

#1 - Toyota National Customer Service is a step UNDER the authority of the regionals. The regionals actually hold the power to make -- or not make -- the repairs under TSB coverage...especially if you are out of warranty.

#2 - If a dealer or a regional has agreed to take care of your brakes...GET IT IN WRITING! I am sure most of you are aware of the Three Greatest Lies...now add one more. If it ain't in writing, it don't count. Period.

#3 - If you feel this isn't the Fix, then get a written commitment/agreement from the Dealer AND the Regional for continued coverage.

#4 - Toyota warrants the vehicle for 36k. PERIOD. They are out of the picture at 35,999.9 miles. And it doesn't matter what Sally, or Jimmie at Toyota National told you. If you didn't get it in writing, you loose. And it doesn't matter what happened or how much work was done before the magic number of 36000.

#5 - If your dealer or regional wants you to wait for "X" amount of time....GET IT IN WRITING that they will honor their agreement should you go out of warranty under their "wait" recommendation.

The moral to the purchase of a Tundra is: Get it in writing. Get it in writing. Get it in writing.

There must be another dealer in the area that "MIGHT"let them borrow "THE TOOL" so you can have it done.

Sounds like they're giving you the tool.

With the information Mark440 listed below I would be very surprised if Toyota does the recall people are talking about. I have an 00 Tundra with only minor, intermittent brake vibration issues and never had any TSB's performed before I passed the 36,000 mile mark. I certainly wouldn't pay out of pocket now to have the new TSB done, but if a recall is announced I would take my truck in.

I guess my point is I think it is a minority of owners that have had the problem. Even if say 40% of people have had the issue and 60% haven't then Toyota would certainly not issue a recall unless forced by the government. Why would they want to pay for 100% of the trucks to be fixed if only 40% of owners or less have had the problem? And I would be willing to bet the number of complaints is even less than 40%.

Toyota performed the brake TSB on my truck with 38,000 miles on it no questions asked. No charge to me.

I complained of the vibration before the fix came out and decided to wait for the fix to bring it in for repair. I didn't get anything in writing.

Call me lucky if you want but I haven't had the issues others have had with their local Toyota dealership. Toyota has been very good in fixing the problems I've had with my Tundra.

jaskolka, congratulations. You're now learning firsthand that all the Toyota dealers in the Philly metro area are awful. Good luck getting it resolved. Keep us posted.

I have to find out whether the Tundra brake TSBs apply to 2002's for the Tundra. I know that the Sequoia falls under the TSB because I have a copy of it.

I have a 2002 that is having front and rear tsb done as soon as parts arrive. I think that there is a certain vin # it must be under to quailify for tsb. My brake problems only really happened when truck was loaded or towing something. But when empty brakes seemed completely normal. Didnt really have to push the dealer very much to agree to do the tsb either.

Finally brought my truck to the dealer for the fix. demanded them that i could not wait for their car rental, so they rented a car from enterprise. They called me at work around three, they can not finish the truck today. They promise me wednesday afternoon. Tommorow is another day. I'm not even sweating it as long as they fix it right.

When Mark440 is referring to regional Toyota distributors, he's referring to Gulf States Toyota in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas, and Southeast Toyota in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina. In other parts of the U.S., Toyota vehicles are distributed by Toyota Motor Sales, a branch of Toyota Motor of Japan.

I took my 2001 limited 4wd in today to see if I qualified for the TSB. My truck has 39.400 miles on it and has slight vibrations when braking from high speed. Under normal conditions it is fine.
They drove the truck, looked at the brakes and concluded it qualified for the TSB which is to be done on Monday, they would have done it today if I could have left the truck with them.
My hat is off to Team Toyota in Tallahassee.
2 weeks ago they replaced the fuel pump under warranty as well.

Default Question

OK....here goes.

Would you "IF" you had zero brake problems have the TSB done? does this make sense .......in case it happens later on? Or do we just say "7734 NO" and go on, worried they might actually mess up a good thing?

I'm sure, I'm not the only person concerned especially seeing, I tow a large boat.
Has anyone had one done without an issue? Why should us without vibrations take a chance and have a problem later.

Should we just go on and have it done later "IF" the problem arises. Seems I paid for better brakes if this is a better set-up. I'll just assume it is, knowing they aren't spending this amount of money and time unless they are VERY sure. Also sure they have brake problems with the current design.

Kinda of like preventive medicine.

I guess the real question is, IF you do decide to go forward with the TSB, can you convince the dealer to do it, especially if they drive your truck and the brakes are perfect?
