I just don't want the payments to go with that new truck. I used to always say that you should never buy the vehicle the year it comes out, but I bought a 2001 Highlander and still have it with minimal issues. They did come out with some better interior options in the subsequent years, but I have no plans to get rid of it even though it has 90k on it.

So I finally go around to replacing the brakes on my tundra again. I put the PFC carbon friction pads and took a orbital sander to the front rotors. I pulled the rear drums off and used compressed air to blow everything out. I then sprayed some brake cleaner over them. I adjusted the rear brake shoes from the back until they just started to drag. I flushed the brakes and went for a drive. I could feel the rear drums drag when I first left and the brakes were very responsive. I drove several miles and was finally very pleased with the results. I parked the truck for several days. I got back into it today and it is back to the way it was before????. I was at a stop and pressed on the parking brake hard several times and again could feel the brakes starting to drag again in the back and work better.

Calitundra,

I was experiencing a similar problem. Couldn't figure it out. I just replaced my PCV Valve and the rubber grommet that goes into the valve cover. Problem solved for $20. The grommet had hardened due to age and heat and was not sealing very good. I have 147,000 miles on my truck. Brakes feel firm now.

HTH,

Ken

Hay Hay,

So far so good with the new rotors and pads. Brakes are smooth and effective for some 8k so far. I can assure Mevang that given the rims I have on the truck that don't allow you to see the rotors, so i'm definately not going for "looks" but for a more effective solution to my constantly warped rotors that my mechanic believes is caused by towing some thing heavy! I don't tow anything!
