Default Brake Noise in Reverse (01 Tundra)

2001 Tundra.

I have completed all front brake upgrades about five months ago, and it has gone great... However, now when ever I back up when I go to depress the brakes I hear a click sound, not a clicking sound, or a rubbing sound but a click. It is kind of loud seems to be coming from the middle of the back end. Only when I go in reverse and only when I go the depress the brakes fully. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening???
any help would be great.....
Thanks

It's important that you find where the noise is coming from. Maybe have someone can stand next you and listen. From the drivers seat noises can travel and sounds like it's coming from somewhere else.
My guest is the noise your hearing is the front pads shifting directions in the calipers. My truck does this also as I'm backing out of the drive way in the morning. It did it with the old caliper but is louder with the new calipers. I would consider this normal as these caliper have no hardware to maintain or quite pad shifting. This is not unusual for fixed calipers that use pins as my Nissan truck did this also. More expensive cars like Mercedes that use fixed caliper with pins have elaborate spring clips that keep this type of noises from happening or at least to a minimum. With a truck these noises, if you know what it is, is not so much of a concern.

i have an aweful squeal from my front brakes on my 01 tunrdra as well. only in reverse, like you said, and the dealer has not been able to solve the problem in 6 attempts. The squeal is so loud its almost unbearable.. and quite embarassing. It has been this way for over a year now and no problems, just noise... sure wish that would go away

I just changed my front brakes and noticed that if you install the spring (that keeps the pads spread apart) upside down, it will catch inside of the rotor when the wheel spins in reverse. That could be the click.

This is a common mistake. After time it will wear the spring in haft and it will fail.
