I don't think I have to worry about getting anymore ticket on that car cause my brother recently totaled it. Those things are pretty much cans very very fragile. Now he has a very very expensive can... now I wish I had a very expensive can opener to get some stuff out of there lol.

Does any one know why we can't have tint on the tail lights??? I agree cali laws suck. BTW he walked away with 2 scratches which came from crawling out of the car.

I assume the tailight law is because some people go so dark that you don't see there break lights even turn on. So they just make the law like the window tint, anything is illegal instead of making a cut off point. My best guess.

The whole window tint issue is stupid. I'm within the legal law of TX which is where my truck is registered. Never had any issues with CA cops so far and don't think they can really do anything about it even if they do stop me. It's probably a bored cop that would even do it or one that stops for speeding and just wants to tack on more crap. I agree it's all about revenue for the broke state of CA.

Anytime you're driving on California public roads, even if your car in registered in Texas, you still can be ticketed for the front tint. I've been there.

I was just reminded that no front license plate & tinted front windows is an infraction yesterday here in Los Angeles.

I had my hands free device on and wearing my seat belt, so no worries there. It just ribs me since I'm on the road like 85% of the work week all over the Los Angeles area. I've been tinted and front license place free since 2002 (this truck and the one before). I even have one of those license plate frames that is known to be associated with LAPD. Countless times I've been in front, in back, and next to LAPD in the course of my daily rounds. But alas, the guy that pulled me over was on a motorcycle with a brown shirt. The top of the citation says Los Angeles Sherriff's Department MTA. Go figure.

I know I'm in the wrong, just pi$$ed that I got caught. I guess the 18% tint on all windows except the windshield plus the fact that the truck is black and the interior is black & dark gray sure make for a dark look.

He said just fix the issues before the court date and show up. The ticket shows each infraction (26708 & 5200) as non-correctable. What's up with that? How can these be non-correctable?

So what do I do? This is the first time I got one of these. I put the front plate on as soon as I got home but don't wanna take off the tint. I have a person that will sign off for me so I'm cool on that end. After they sign it, I just mail it in? How much? Or do I wait until I get something in the mail?

In LA don't mess with LASD/MTA motor cops. They ride like crap and have piss... attitudes.
If a chippy gives you a coupon, only a chippy can sign it. Some jurisdictions forbid other LEOs from signing chippy coupons. Yes it has happened to me.

That's why I like rolling with TX plates.....they can't do anything about it and I'd fight that. I don't roll around with a CA state driver's handbook to know what the heck is the law here besides what's posted. I have TX plates, registration, insurance, AND driver's license with the SAME address. So by all means I'm just passing through. I've been ticketed for speeding on my motorcycle and he couldn't do anything besides write it up with my existing info.

Three thoughts:

1. If your cite is issued by CHP, read the cite front and back carefully. CHP cites will often say they can ONLY be signed off by another CHP officer. That's because all the other cops in So Cal, mostly, think CHP write chicken-$hit cites, and used to sign them off left and right. CHP took exception to that, understandably.

2. If you got a ticket for some things and not for others it is probably because you weren't that much of an a$$hole, and the copper didn't want to go digging through the vehicle code to find the sections to cite you for the unusual stuff like tinted taillights.

3. If you are of fair complexion (Irish, English, German, Etc.), try going to your doctor and getting a letter recommending you tint your windows to mitigate your exposure to the sun for health (melanoma) reasons.

Works for me

dyogim said it, although the legal terms are confusing. my tint guy warned me that ANY WINDOW TINT is technically illegal in cali other than factory. I noticed on my receipt, he wrote that he tinted the rear only, not the doors. must be a cover your a$$ tactic.(can I say that?)
bjg411 is correct on the taillight issue, it obstructs view of brake lights in the daytime. rather than set a limit they outright banned it, reduces time spent in court and increases profits for them. I had one of riversides finest explain it to me.

I replaced my bulbs with LED's. If you can't see them during the day, you shouldn't be behind the wheel.

AND I tinted them darker!

I agree. I think its a bs reason. then again in certain times of day I have seen taillights that are tough to see because they were too ambitious with the spray. I imagine mostly its old folks and vision impaired who have the problem. I'm sure your led upgrade is plenty bright and the right way to do it. Your head/fog lights look sick btw. how do well they light up the road?
