Starting early Saturday morning, there were a string of seperate accidents in the Sacramento region resulting in 7 deaths over the weekend. Assumed causes were fog, speeding, racing, and backing out of a driveway which caused a biker to lose his life. To top it off, 2 mothers pulled over to let their teen daughters out to fight each other resulting in one being stabbed. Its unbelievable that parents are on the same maturity level as their teenage kids. I grew up in the Bay Area with all the traffic and congestion but would prefer driving there than any place in Sacramento. I've lived up here for almost 2 years now and have noticed generally how drivers behaive and regard others on the road, not all but most. Turn signals rarely get used, stops signs are yield signs, making lane changes deserves the right of way, right turns on red mean don't stop but speed up to beat the pedestrian, and don't pay attention because the world spins around you. I guess it can be the same wherever you go but out of all the places I've driven in, Sacramento is the only one that makes me feel paranoid that someone is going to run into me.

I'm not sure if Sac has drivers that are any worse that other places I have driven. I will say I try to avoid driving downtown if at all possible. Downtown and my truck are not a good mix. Most downtows are bad IMO, but I really don't like driving in downtown Sac.

Tell me about it. I lived in downtown Davis (fellow Aggie) prior to moving to Sac and rode my bike all the time to class so I've had my share of close calls. I miss living there and am waiting for the next housing subdivision to open up to buy a new home. I had a few friends who went through the EE program there and they had an easy time landing jobs after graduation and now they're doing quite well.

They are working on a new one on the farm land across from the Nugget on the corner of Pole Line and Covell. I don't think it has been approved by the city council yet, but it shold be nice if it does happen. I know what you mean about being close to campus. I don't really have to drive if I don't want to. I actually don't drive much to save money on gas...
What did you study at Davis?

Sacramento sucks, I've been living here for a little less than a year and I can't wait to leave. The drivers are SOOO bad, many of them are armed and I have never seen more discourteous, rude, and lawless behavior (I lived in LA for a while too) even standing in line at the grocery store.
A few weeks ago we were downtown when they had that near riot/slash mayhem related to cancellation of the Mardi Gras. We heard gunshots and saw hundreds of people storming the streets, jumping on cars, etc.
There aren't enough cops, and the ones they do have are in helicopters--this place is lawless. I now carry protection, I didn't even do this when I lived in LA. Simply put, every time I am downtown I keep my eyes open.

All I can add is welcome to California... it's worse for those of us out in the Central Valley region because people are used to moving fast and free on the country roads with no obstructions for the most part. However as more and more city people move out and find themselves actually moving (no traffic) they don't know how to handle themselves and the go for it forgetting that there are other people around. I've been here in CA all my life and I have to say that a lot of it also has to do with California attitude and the people that live here... ever person for themself and forgetting common courtesy.
