Hey Chris, sounds like you're having fun with the topo's and your PC software!
For a day trip that could happen pretty much any time, we could do a lower elevation run that we've been on before called Greenhorn. This is the one that is near Grass Valley, down in the river bottom. The one where Chris tried to impersonate a submarine. It's a good day run, easy for ANYONE with a 4x4 that wants a taste of taking their truck off-road with virtually zero chance for any damage.
I'd have to look at my home calendar to see what's open. Maybe even later this month???

Ah, yes! The "infamous" cabin, I had forgotten about that. I can almost hear the banjo's.

[QUOTE=Herbicidal]Sounds good! It looks like the 27th-28th is Memorial Day weekend, so we would probably want to avoid those dates...
QUOTE]

Memorial Day weekend won't work for me, too much already going on then.

I'm down for any trails for a newbie, well I'm not a newbie (check my photos, just updated my old LC runs) but my truck is and I'll be damned if I get this baby all scratched and dented. If there's no body damage, I'm in. I know I sound like a wimp but my Land Crusier was bought specifically for off roading and I used it well. The first run up in the mountains had thousands of pinstripes from Manzanita bushes. I was upset, I expected damage but not that much. It was forever scarred. Oh well, that's the past.
Anyways, I'd love to go out on trails with you folk as long as there are either bypasses or tamer lines to take. Also, I wouldn't mind the snow as long as it's not too deep.
I'll watch this thread and see what happens. Also, I'm willing to go sooner than May if another run comes up.
so im thinking we change it to the 13-14th. i will change the first post so it reflects the correct date.
seto.. this trail appears to look more than straight forward.... i cant guarantee no damage though! im with you though... my first run out with the tundra... on a trail everyone claimed to be damage free... i got some damage. i belive it was my overloaded truck... an in expereince that really caused it. i was heartbroken... my wife called me a wuss and told me to go spend some $$ to enhance and protect it... something she is probably regretting now your more than welcome to read my book... it describes the trail pretty well. most of the trails there are mainly serivice roads and such more than "jeep" trails. im really picturing this as a camping trip that the family sedan cant quite get to.
besides.. once we get that first pin stripe on there... the next are easy!

Coincedentially, I have that book and oddly enough I have trails 17 and 25 earmarked as runs that I previously planned but never did. We used to do tons of hard core stuff up in the Sierra's and Rubicon and a bunch of others in our club wanted to do more tamer stuff so they could come so I bought the book and was planning a few "expedition" type of trips. I like the book cause it gives the scenic rating too which is one of the reasons we like going outdoors in the first place. We actually did Eagle Lakes trail as a compromise cause there are many bypasses for the tough stuff.
I'm big boy, if I decide to come (which I want to) then I'll deal with the outcome. I'm good up to trail rating 5. I can always park or turn around if it gets too crazy but the book really has some cool runs. I'm excited to get back in the wheeling game. It's funny cause I said I'm buying this truck and going to keep it stock and already have 10 things done and coilovers still to put on. But I'm preaching to the choir cause we're all the same right?
I look forward to running the trails with you guys...
Excellent pic's! It will be nice to have a new face in the group , along with the experiences you've already had 4wheelin'.

Wow. Nice LC. I've heard some great things about the mid 90's LC's. Am I correct when I seem to recall that the 1993 ones were a tad underpowered?? Early May is cool. I'll either be bringing up my current tundra, or a 1993 Trooper. Either way, early May sounds good.

Thanks for the compliments. That was my pride and joy. I took her everywhere and she never let me down. Coils on ever corner made for great wheeling. The 1993 were the first of the "better" powered. The years went from 91-97 for the 80 series. The 91 & 92 had the underpowered motor with many doing a V8 swap. The 93 & 94 had the bigger motor, not that big and not that powerful from an HP perspective but the torque is what made it shine. Still an inline six all the way up to 97. Only real changes were slight between the 93/94 & 95-97, some interior, an AC change and some smaller items. Very poor milage as the beast was heavy (with the additonal weight of an ARB up front, Hanna sliders on the side and a Kaymar on the rear, with dual batteries and a full stereo system and tools and cargo) and underpowered, about 10-11 mpg. I ended up trading in for the Tundra because I do handy man work now and needed the truck bed. I would go back to an LC in a heartbeat, my LC had 230k miles on it and no major work had yet to be done, just front knuckle work from the full time 4wd. Toyota qualitiy can not be beat. Thanks again for the compliments everyone.
I'd be down for something in May. As long as it falls on that weekend of the 13th-14th as I'll be in Reno/Fernley tracking my S4 the next weekend and Memorial Day is the next weekend and I like to stay out of that chaos. I need to get my truck in an off-road environment, a TRUE off road environment. I've done plenty of off roading on my projects in Lincoln and Penryn, but nothing trail wise. But I guess I should get my TB done, my two front inner cv boots fixed, and do any other maintenance now that I'm pushing 94K. If only my S4 didn't steal all the attention and $$$ from Tundra! HAHA
A buddy of mine is planning a 4wd outing up I-80 to the Eagle Lakes trail. We might have to have a plan "B" as there may be too much snow. Come one, come all!
Let me know if you are interested and I can provide the details as we get closer to the date.
