Default Where To Go Camping?

Hey Californians, I actually posted something similar in another thread but got no response. So hopefully Im not violating any rules......Im planning a camping trip in the summer and would like to know where most of you all like to go. Particularly looking for a spot kinda of the beaten path, woodzy(?), you know the true outdoor life.
Im would like to stay away from the main campground with fee and other camper for reasons like noise and a primitive area. So please do sure your experiences or secret location if you will.

Hey there. I would suggest picking up a couple of Forest Service maps of areas in Placer and El Dorado counties. There are quite a few roads that head away from the major highways like I-80 and 50. Up I-80, look for Spaulding lake near Nyack (I think). Once the snow melts (it may already be gone) there are some decent dirt roads that go all over the place up there. Nothing too hard core, but you could probably find a place to camp away from most folks. If you have a 4x4 that opens up more possibilities.

I have not camped in those areas myself, but it sounds kind of like what your are looking for. With all the water up there, you could probably do some fishing too if that's your thing.

Like Herb. said lake spaulding is a good area off Hwy 80 and then off Hwy 50 you could go up Icehouse rd. and find all kinds of places to camp.

If you don't have 4wd you might be a bit more limited on places to get off the beatin path.

Another place to check out would be the Downieville area up hwy 49. Although, that would be a very long haul for you.

You didn't say what you liked to do when you go camping ie.....4wheeling, fishing, hiking, riding motorcycles, quads etc. you might get more specific info. if tell us what you're looking for.
