I have to try to make it next time, Glamis New Year that is. What a Trip! Can't wait to get a off-road suspension, so I can get even crazier and go airborne in my truck.

If OCO was closer I would consider it. I might be heading to Barstow Outlet Center Mall this week which happens to also be the exit for the MDR Barstow Race course. They have 100 stores out there and I need to finish off some xmas shopping. Might just take it a little dirt while I am out there. Its about 1.5hr from me while OCO is roughly 2-3hr.

Is that the same barstow outlets half way going to Vegas on the 15? If so, are you allowed to go off-road anywhere or freely around there? I've always wondered if I could romp around all that land, or if it is private property.

Most of the land out there is open desert or BLM controlled. When you exit Outlet Center Driver and go right you will see an opening with a big sign that says public land use and some bulletins posted by the BLM. (Bureau of Land Management) They are also the Rangers you see out there usually. The course will be right in front of you in the dirt. You can offroad out there anywhere you want around the course as its marked and BLM controlled. Yes its where you are thinking.

What exactly does the MDR bartow race course consist of? Is it point-A to point-B then back to point-A, or does it go in some sort of loop/circle? How many miles? Is anyone allowed to prerun it?

MDR Course Map

Above is a course map for one of the courses there for MDR Racing. If you want to learn more about the MDR series go to www.mdrracing.com. I attend all of their races and often chase or prerun for some friends that race. I will warn you now the course is very rough, lots of different types of terrain from sand to rock with more than your fair share of whoops. You can go slow through it but its quite rough so you know. There are also plenty of chase roads in the area which are much smoother for chase vehicles needing to get around the course fast to help their teams. Plenty of fun to be had out there if you head out sometime. When the races start up in Feb I plan on trying to organize the guys here to go and checkout some races.

Oh yeah, the course is somewhat marked but most likely most of the course marking have been removed or stolen. A week before each race MDR goes out and marks the course for the upcoming weekend. Its not hard to find the course but you may get a little turned around when you get around the back side of some of the mountains so keep that in mind. I have run this course back and forth probably 10 times in 2wd no locker and did fine just have to know what youre doing behind the wheel. I wouldnt suggest going offroading anywhere especially on a rough race course without atleast one other truck.

I think we really should go. For me that's only gonna be a 1 hour drive, but for you guys it's gonna really suck.

I know where Barstow is, just dunno where all the MDR courses are.

By no means am I volunteering myself to be the trip leader/organizer, I'll go if other people go.

But it's got to be after new years for me to go. Am all tied up with family and holiday stuff until then. But yeah, I would really wanna find out how this place is.

Let's try to get at least 10 people to go. With a set date and a few weeks notice, hopefully we'll be able to get the word out and get more people to go.

Luigi
