....or a $4500 insurance claim!! Now that my truck is completely free of all scratches and dents...it's gonna be hard for me to get out on the trails. Not to worry though....it didn't take long for me to take it out after I bought it.
Yeah I would hit those trails but not with my Tundra. I'm not crazy about jackin' up my rig like Frank did on his Toyota. Actually, I usually ride on sand dunes instead of rock climb. I haven't watched the rest of the videos since I'm killing the connections bandwidth and my girl friend is complaining that it's taking forever to download music. I'll watch the rest later.

After watching all the movie clips, I'm convinced that rock climbing isn't my bag. You have a better chance at denting a fender, blowing up a tire, tearing off a bumper, or even flippin' your truck over. Rock climbing requires a lot of patience and great amount of skills, oh and luck too. I'll stick to sand duning.
Those videos are of the bottom of Doran Canyon, definitely a difficult spot, I almost flopped my truck there. There are other trails that are much easier. If you are close, it's worth a trip just to check out the canyons and trippy scenery.
I have plans for a possible late April trip to Anza Borrego, to check a USGS seismograph in the remote Collins Valley around the north end of the park.
Getting there requires 4WD, two short water crossings and a couple tough climbs through boulder strewn passes. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but I finessed my stock Tundra through without too much drama a couple years ago.
The catch is (you knew there was a catch, right?), it’s a long drive from the metro areas of SoCal (probably not so bad from San Diego) and we’ll probably run it on a weekday.
If anyone’s interested, post questions and I’ll spew more details.
I could do it as a day trip if someone wishes to caravan out there and wants company for the journey. I’d estimate a 2 to 2.5 hour one-way trip from Orange County out to Borrego Springs.
Although it is a long drive to the trailhead, the excursion only takes about 6 hours – a couple hours of 4 wheeling to get to the site, a couple hours to service the equipment and a couple hours of 4 wheeling to come back out.
So a day trip would be a 10-12 hour day, depending on where you start.
OTOH, if someone wishes to wander around a bit more, I’d stay overnight and explore before or after the main run. My cousin works for the USGS, so I‘d bunk with him. There are nice hotels and campsites right in Borrego Springs, so an overnight trip could fit into anyone’s budget.
I'm in LA and I have a few new yota friends that will be hitting up some trails down in San Diego on April 13.
The trails will be In-Ko-Pah (Alpine, CA) off the 8 freeway.
Anyway, currently there are 6 yota's going to this trail run (all of which are 4x4.)
Stock should do fine. If not, everyone has some form of recovery gear to get anyone out anyway
If you're interested, let me know so I can give ya the exact details.
If anyone else is interested, post it up so I can send ya all the info! I'll be driving down to SD that morning around 6am ish... it's far but well worth it!
but it's okay, a few people from the SD yota guys and I have decided that we'd do a trail run once a month in SD or LA. so there will be more to come.
here are some past trail pix that I have that you can check out to get a feel for the easy/mild stuff we do it's not much but heck it's fun when you're w/ abunch of toyota guys/gals
