Camry HybridGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "Ext. Warranty - Would you buy it again?", within the Camry Hybrid forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
What has your experience been? I decided not to decide on buying ext. warr. when I took delivery, because I knew I could wait until 36,000. My TCH has been flawless for 13,000 miles. Have any of you gone beyond factory warranty and needed significant repairs? I'm planning on long-term ownership beyond even extended warranty limits, but lets hear it from you if you've been glad you have it, glad you didnt get it, or whatever.

I typically don't buy them, because as you've said, there's an opportunity to buy one past the in-service date. I also don't know at purchase if I'm buying a lemon, so why dump a ton of money into extras that I won't get back if I have to dump or lemon law the car? I'll wait for 20K or so, assess my satisfaction with the vehicle, then decide of it's going to be around another 70K or so. Sure, I can drive a great deal in the finance office, but that 'great deal' might be a total waste, if I end up dumping the car.
Just my 2 cents - having actually 'lemon lawed' a car once, I reserve judgment until the car has a couple of years' use on it.
I never buy them. A Toyota shouldn't need them. The money is better spent on aggressive preventive maintenance so the running gear of the car doesn't suffer much wear, hence is unlikely to fail or wear out by 100,000.
if i remember correctly, it extends mine from 4 years / 48000 kms to still 4 years, but much higher mileage (80K kms seem to stick to me). i'd also get the first three maintenance visits covered (except parts). not reallly worth it actually, since I don't drive that much
I agree with Kathy, it would be money wasted on these cars. I had and 07 TCH and it was a first year model. No problems what-so-ever. I now have an 09.

I don't drive one forever but know plenty who do and with a Camry don't feel it needed. With the Hybrid I was wondering if it might be useful but then remembered they have 10 years and 100k on all Hybrid parts.
Car is flawless so far and I average right at 40 mpg's. Of course that's what the car's computer says. Have found in the past that it runs about 1 to 2 mpg's high.

EXTENDED WARRANTIES HOW TO BUY AN AUTO EXTENDED WARRANTY, AVOID SCAMS
food for thought; but i never buy them and might have made a mistake with the issues i have been going thru with my 06DC, and i have not made it outta the 36/60 yet so actually an extended one would probably be a waste? feel Toyota will have to increase their coverages before long to compete warranty wise?
