Question I miss my tachometer!

Has anyone seen or done a tachometer installation on the TCH? I find that sometimes I just gotta know.

What use is it to know what the rpm's are on a hybrid?
It's like knowing what temperature the upholstery is.

No matter what either is, you aren't going to change your driving habits.
Even if you knew what the wind speed, and direction is, outside the car,
you won't change direction, or speed, to compensate.

The information is absolutely useless to the driver, when you think about it, that's why you won't see a tachometer in a hybrid.

It would just be dead weight, (and one more thing to go wrong,) to haul around all the time.
And you know that weight is the enemy.

You wouldn't want that now would you?

why wouldnt it? The only feedback I get is NOISE when the CVT simulates a kickdown and makes the engine spin so much harder. I would like to get some acceleration, but maybe I wouldn't want to be at redline, but we wouldn't know now, would we?

Yeah, so the mileage guage tells me how much gas the engine is using, but still have no idea what the car decided to do.

I don't think you understand this explanation.
It really does not matter what the RPM's are.
The computer will select the optimal RPM depending on the load.
All you can do is vary the load.

Because the engine is fly by wire, only the computer has control of the throttle, so knowing what RPM is selected by the computer, is immaterial.

Like I said, it makes no difference what the RPM's are because you can't change them to suit your desire.

A tachometer is VERY useful in a manual transmission equipped vehicle, because you can vary the load with the throttle, and the gear selected as a combination, but in a CVT equipped vehicle that choice is taken away from you, and replaced by a computer program.

So knowing the RPM, in this case, is simply worthless information.
Toyota realized this, and gave you something that is actually useful, in it's place.

Most of us learn to drive differently, once we start paying attention to how fast our gasoline is being burned up.
That's the kind of good information you will come to appreciate.

Buy a scangauge. I have one in mine and would not be without it, not for the tach. but all the other features. Do a search and look at it.

Get a ScanGuage II...but a Tach gauge would be useless in a HYbrid anyway.

That's why yu get a Kw gauge instead. Hybrid is a different animal and yu drive it efficiently using different information than yu would on a Non-hybrid!!

In all actuality an RPM gauge is most useful when driving a Standard transmission... not an automatic. And a Hybrid with CVT and no gear shifts... an RPM gauge is useless.

I don't know why these guys are jumping all over you. If you want a tach, then you want one. When I drive my wife's TCH and we are pegging it to pass someone up a mountian I would like to see for curiousity's sake what I am doing to the engine.
