Be thankful you dont have a PRIUS, You cant replace just the fuel pump, it's part of the fuel tank and not sold seperatly.

The HV Camry fuel pump is $350 APPROX at TS member price, and your right its not that hard to replace at all.

If you do run out of gas it will not hurt anything a toyota only turns on the fuel pump when crankshaft rotation is recognized by the ecm if you want to test this remove your cuircut opening relay this will kill the fuel pump power you will probobly get a code for engine faild to start. The car will run on battery for less than a 5 minutes when the battery state of charge reaches 40% it will shut down and will not move until the key is cycled of and back on if this was an actual run out of gas situation it would do the same thing this will not burn out a fuel pump will not ruin anything just add gas and clear the codes even though your battery moniter on the dash says it is low the lowest it can get is 40% state of charge befor it shuts down
