Camry HybridGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid Pricing", within the Camry Hybrid forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
Toyota Motor Sales, USA, is pleased to provide you with pricing for the all-new 2007 Camry Hybrid sedan which will arrive at dealerships in early May, 2006. Pricing for Camry Hybrid will be announced to the public on March 27, 2006.
2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid $25,900
The best-selling car in America is now available as a HYBRID! All new for 2007MY, the Camry Hybrid takes the bold new styling, enhanced performance and innovative features from the 07MY Camry and adds Toyotas patented Hybrid Synergy Drive system for a perfect blend of technology, performance, fuel efficiency, and value.
The new Camry Hybrid base MSRP starts at $25,900, over $5,000 less than the Honda Accord Hybrid. Camry Hybrid also offers an EPA estimated city MPG rating of 40 MPG, 60% greater than Accord Hybrid.
Like all other Camry models, Camry Hybrid will offer an outstanding value with an extensive list of standard features. Within the Camry lineup, Camry Hybrid has been positioned $1,475 more than a Camry XLE L4, and receives the following hybrid specific enhancements:
Total of 187 horsepower. 29 horsepower more than the Camry 4-cylinder gas engine.
Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system (VDIM)
Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRAC)
Smart key system with push button start
Blue tinted headlights
Silver grille and LED taillights that are only available on Camry Hybrid
Hybrid badges on front fenders and rear of vehicle
Multi-information display which can be toggled to show the energy flow between the
gas and electric motors, current in-trip fuel economy (MPG), ECO drive - shows fuel economy on trip, average fuel consumption from last refuel, driving range (distance to empty), miles driven from engine start, average speed since start, and odometer / trip odometers.
Unique Jasper Green color is available
Hybrid Synergy Drive System:
The all new Camry Hybrid is powered by Toyotas Hybrid Synergy Drive System (HSD). The HSD system consists of a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine connected to a continuously variable transmission along with two electric drive motors and transaxle to provide the optimal balance of fuel economy and performance. The Camry Hybrid produces 187 horsepower, which is comparable to many competitor 6-cylinder models. Yet, Camry Hybrid remains very fuel efficient with preliminary EPA estimates of 40 MPG in the city and 38 MPG on the highway. Combined city/highway fuel economy is estimated at 39 MPG.
Safety:
The 2007 Camry Hybrid comes equipped with Vehicle Dynamics Integrated
Management system (VDIM) which employs a series of sensors to detect loss of traction. The system uses a combination of individual wheel braking, throttle activation and steering assistance to help the driver keep control of the vehicle. VDIM incorporates Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Antilock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. In addition to the vehicle control safety systems, occupant safety is also of top importance. Camry Hybrid comes standard with seven airbags; consisting of driver and passenger front airbags, front seat mounted side airbags, front & rear curtain shield
airbags, and a drivers knee airbag.

I have never actually ran some number to know the difference in price for the car vs the gas mileage improvement. When would it pay for itself? How many miles? Obviously other better reasons . polution etc. Just wondering about the money difference though.
From what I've read, the experts seem to think most people will never break even from a cost standpoint but there would seem to be too many unknowns (like used car values 5-10yrs from now, interest rates and future fuel prices) for general comparisons. You should be able to approximate costs based on your expected use and specific situation however -- especially if you will be buying soon. Just pick two cars and compare them. I've run the numbers a couple of times and there is no way we can justify switching to hybrid based on cost because of the few miles we drive. That won't stop me from making the change to something more fuel efficient when the LI-Ions and new diesels are out a couple of years from now however.
PS: I just checked my on-line subscription to the leading comsumer magazine and they said in Sept, 06 that the most fuel efficient hybrids would require 5yrs to break even assuming gasoline averages $3.66 during the 5yr period. That's a generalization of course and I assume some people will do much better and some -- maybe not. They added that the up-scale power-hybrids would still be several $K in the hole after 5yrs but they can't possibly know whether those vehicles will be worth more or less than non-hybrids at that time.

this of course is if you are buying a hybrid only to save gas. There are several other reasons to buy a hybrid that have nothing to do with saving gas. Although that is the one that most people talk about. Here in san francisco, they talk more about the emissions these cars dont release more than the gas savings.

I built a spreadsheet to find out when different models would pay for themself based on gas milage ,against my BB Chevy truck mpg .
The Corolla won , Prius came in second ,both paying for themselves in less than 60,000 miles . The Camry 4cyl was 3rd, Scion TC 4th, Camry Hybrid 5th .
