Default TCH & HOV Lanes

In NYC, where I live, drivers of Civic Hybrids, Insights & Prius', (not all model years, but most) can drive in the HOV lanes of the Long Island Expwy with no other passengers.

I checked the DMV website and found out you need a sticker from the DMV. But the Camry Hybrid isn't on their list. A phone call revealed that they don't know if the model has been reviewed for qualification or if it simply didn't meet the standards. Apparently the minumum MPG is 45, which would mean the TCH doesn't qualify based on the EPA ratings.

Anyone know of other states where TCH drivers can use HOV lanes with no passengers? I'm wondering how to lobby the NYS DOT & DMV to consider the TCH.

In California, THC does NOT qualify but as you noted you need a sticker from the DMV to use the lanes without a passenger.

According to the California Air Resources Board website, the TCH does not qualify: Subject Top Page: ELIGIBLE VEHICLES - SINGLE OCCUPANT CARPOOL LANE USE STICKERS

Here's the link the California DMV website for Clean Air Vehicle Stickers. Clean Air Vehicle Stickers—High Occupancy Vehicle Lane Usage

Major disappointment, but not enough to kill the fun I'm having with my new car. Only have 100 miles on the odometer and getting lots of oohs and aahs in the parking lot at work
Fortunately, I don't need the LIE to get to work, unless I get a new job.....right now I only have a 2 mile commute
I know, why do I even need a car for a 2 mile commute? Because I'm not as young as I used to be! Too tired at the end of the day to do anything but drive home.

I recently purchased a 2007 Hybrid myself, and do occasionally use the expressways, if you find out how to petition for the Clean Pass, let me know, and I'll sign up in a moments notice

People The ACEEE has Passed the TCH for the PZEV emmissons rating and it qualifies in Northern Virginia for the HOV lanes with the "Clean Fuel" Tags ......... You need to "SMACK" your DMV people in order to wake them up and get with the "HOV Show"!!!!!!
