TCH Extended Warranty Anyone? via Toyota or other provider?

I opted out on the dealer offered extended warranty. I'm having second thoughts now...

Did you opt to purchase or not to puchase the Toyota extended warranty, and why?

I opted to get one but I didn't pay what the dealer wanted. Dealers will try to get you to pay $1500+ for an extended warranty. Forget that. There are other dealers who will gladly sell you a Genuine Toyota Platinum for half that price.
Toyota of Greenfield (do a google search). Ask to talk to Troy Dietrich for a quote.
As long as the car is under 3yrs old you can get the warranty any time and it's good at any dealer.

Some people have speculated that the warranty price may rise if reliability proves to be lower than predicted. There was probably at least one price hike since the TCH was introduced. I doubt that the price will fall over time unless the car was overbuilt and proves to be extremely reliable.

There are also aftermarket warranties available. My credit union offers one that is less expensive than Toyota’s discounted prices. Check around. You have time to make an informed decision.

There are some good threads about TCH exteneded warranties on GreenHybrid - Interactive Hybrid Cars Resource.
I wouldn't get anything but the Toyota warranty. Nor would I let anyone other than Toyota do any serious work on my TCH.

I got my warranty from Midwest Toyota Superstore in (I think) Iowa. Price was way less than half of the $1500 you were quoted.

Are we talking about the 7 year 100,000 mile warranty? I'm embarassed to say I bought it at retail, about a dollar a day after the 3 year 36,000 runs out. What I did not know was the hybrid system carrries its own warranty so I basically warrantied the a/c and nav system and the lesser items. I didn't think to haggle...hope those posts save a few bucks for the future owner...

Why don't you check the pricing from other dealers? I belive that you can get an almost complete refund on your warranty. You still might come out 5-700 dollars ahead. Check the treads on greenhybrid or edmunds. They have a pretty good wrap-up of the current pricing from various dealers. Again, I'd only get the genuine toyota platiunum warranty.

I bought the Platinum $0 deductible plan for my TCH, 7 years, 75,000 miles ( I drove my last car 12 years and 93,500 miles so I don't need the 100,000 plan) I paid the dealer $1050 after he showed me the suggested price was $1500, it seemed like such a deal.

I checked Toyota's website today - the price was indeed the $1500 my dealer showed me. ToyotaFinancial.com - Camry Hybrid Pricing Comparison

If you Google Toyota Extra Care, this comes up first Toyota Warranty but its a Lexus dealership in CT and they quote the plan at $895.

Troy from Toyota of Greenfield, MA quoted me $695 for the same plan.

I'll be cancelling the $1050 plan on Monday morning and buying from Troy.

Update: Toyota sent me a full refund and I bought the same plan from Troy Dietrich at Toyota of Greenfield, MA. for $695, which put $355 back in my pocket. I promised Troy I'd give him a plug

Hl everyone! Just purchase my brand new '07 TCH this month, and purchased the platinum x-care 7/75k warr. for $1050. Would love to get my money back and buy the warranty from Troy for $695?

Toyota of Greenfield, MA, 413-772-0231 , ask for Troy Dietrich, mention that you heard about him in this forum. He will give you instructions for cancelling your plan, getting a refund, and purchasing the same plan for less $$.

This is my first post, and I am happy to find this forum. I called Troy tonight and will be purchasing my extended warranty for almost 400 less than I paid for it less than a month ago!!

Hello,
Just wanted to follow up, I purchased my extended warranty from Troy on Monday night, and saved 500 bucks just for doing so. It is the same exact warranty my dealer sold me for 1095.
Tues Morning I went to my dealer, said I wanted to cancel it and Troy put my order in same day for 500 less.
It is so worth shopping around! Troy was also a lot less than crown AND toyotawarranty.com.
He is very nice, trustworthy, and very fast at getting back to you!!!
I already received my warranty receipt from him in the mail today!
Spread the word!! It's almost too good to be true!

I am from the Chicagoland area plan on purcahsing a Camry shortly. I was wondering, since I am from Chicago would I still be able to contact Troy to get a discount on my extended warranty or am I to far away??

Best IDEA I HAVE HEARD SO FAR

NON TOYOTA warranties NEVER COVER as much as TOYOTA EXTRA CARE PLATINUM.

Where you (or your car) are located does not change anything (assuming within the 50 states and maybe Canada - think I read someone from Canada bought from Troy) Give him a call on Monday.
