CVT or parking brake???

Have had the hybrid for almost six months. One question comes to mind that hasn't been addressed as far as I know. Is it absolutely necessary to use the parking brake on slight inclines, or does the park position on the CVT have a mechanical lock to assure the car remains in position? The car is running well at this point, with no mechanical glitches and approaching 8,000 miles.

I only use parking break on steep slops and have had no problems.
