Camry-SolaraGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Camry-Solara.
This is a discussion thread titled "Used Solara value", within the Camry-Solara forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
I currently have a 2002 Tundra V8 4x4 and looking to get a second car which gets better mileage. My brother-in-law bought a 2000 Solara SLE V6 Auto new. It currently has 64,000 miles and has been sitting undriven in his garage for about a year. The body has a parking lot ding/scratch in the passenger door about a foot long and another spot on the lower driver side fender opening where it was also banged into in a parking lot. And his girlfriend from a few years ago destroyed one of the tires/wheels in a pothole. He normally got the oil changed on time and the tranny was serviced a few years ago at around 40,000 miles. It need all the usual stuff, brakes, tires, plugs, battery etc. and it is not currently registered and doesn't have a current state inspection. If it drives and runs OK is it worth $1,500 to $2,000?

What does Kelly Blue book or edmunds say regarding private party Sale Price$ ??????
Your answers ly within.
Do the math on what yu need or want to do to this Solara...whether cosmetic or mechanical. Returning it to like new condition mechanically or cosmeticly is your call.
It doesn't sound like it is a cream puff. It appears that it may be in below average condition for its year. miles and overall condition.
This is not a hard one though.
And, only yu can decide what yu can live with in a used vehicle!
Thanks, I had already looked at KBB and edmunds and consider them irrelevant, for such a vehicle. I suppose, I should have been more specific. My only interest in this car was that it could be gotten very cheap and is not worth putting money into.
I'd say it depends on what you're intending to do with the car... and what you're paying for it. If you can get it cheap and want to drive it, then go for the investment. If you're looking to turn it around for a quick buck, then it will all depend on what you pay for it.
Actually, with the way larger cars AREN'T selling these days, then I'd figure more like KBB trade-in value or LESS! I've seen some mint/loaded SLE converts going for less than 18K for a 2006 on the open market. A dealer won't even give you 15K for the same car.
I have a 99 SLE with 160k miles and wouldn't sell it for $1500-2k. Drive it and see if it is mechanically sound. With it sitting around, you might need tires ($500 for a decent set). Drive over some rough road - if you hear rattling in the trunk, it could be the struts and will be about $1k. If you're OK with all that, then buy it - it's a good deal.
