Question 2000 Solara V6 mileage?

Hi all. I'm looking to purchase a 2000 Solara with a V6 standard 5-speed. The car has low miles and is in mint condition but was wondering what kind of gas mileage the V6 standard will get as compared to the 4 cyl auto? I drive 2 hours a day to and from work and was looking for a 4 cyl but this car is sooooo nice I am very tempted but don't want to regret it while standing at the pump. Thanks for any help, Tim

Can't say that I have any experience with a 4cl Solara, nor the older V6s for that matter, but depending on what mods are done and how you drive/where you drive will make all the difference.

All I can say is that I live in the mountains and drive like a maniac most of the time with my heavily modified V6 Convertible (Auto & heavier than the coupe) and I still manage to average between 22-25mpg. If I cruise down to LA I usually average about 27mpg on the open hwy.

Hope that helps some. I know others have had better mileage with stock setup and take it easy on the gas.

Jeff

Cool Re: 2000 Solara V6 mileage?

Thanks for the info, the car was owned by a doctor who drove it in the summer only, kept it garaged and kept it VERY clean it is also totally stock. I looked at many Camry 4 cyl's with presumably low miles but they did nothing for me as they where run hard and not well maintained, they wheren't very exciting to drive either! So after being discouraged with all that I went and bought the Solara. I pick it up Wednesday and just can't wait to drive it. I did talk to a guy who has the exact same car only with an automatic and he swears by these V6's and the good economy so that helped me with my decision as well.
Thanks again, Tim

I have a 99 solara v6 and I get between 28 - 30 mpgs. It is great on gas.

Everyone is worried about gas mileage. But still want nice cars! I have an 06 Salara convertable which is heavier & has a v-6 engine & I get 27 to 28 miles per gallon around town. A V-6 really makes the car a much nicer performer & smoother running too. I wish I could have one of those V 12 cyclinder Mercedes or BMW's - They are incrediable performers & talk about smooth-WOW. But they cost 150,000 bucks so I'll have to settle for my little V 6 Solara! I don't use my car very much so gas is not a big issue with me. When I was working I commuted by subway! I wish I could find a girlfriend like my rag top V-6.... She should be pretty, smooth & FAST!!! Good Luck, Coal Miner. Florida Bound in 3 weeks.

I ould never buya used car. Only doctors or little old ladies owned them? Do you believe that? My friend just turned in a 4 year lease & he had "Charlie The Clock" turn the speedo back 65 thoudsand miles. And thats the way the dealer or whoever will re-sell it. And he was brutel with the car. Good Luck, Coal miner.

Well, I've owned the car for a few months now and I just can't tell you how much I love it! Being a person who fixes my own vehicles I went through it with a fine tooth comb and found everything to be in good to fantastic shape. The motor purrrrrs and the timing belt was already changed, oil stays fairly clean up to oil change time and all the belts are new as well as the air filter. The body is mint with only a few door dings and a couple small stone chips, the grill still has its chrome finish ( our convertibles grill had the chrome flaking off ). The interior is clean and comfortable.
The only thing I don't really like, the shifter is not as smooth as I would like it to be, it's kinda clunky and I may look into getting an aftermarket one but only if it makes the shifting smoother. I can't believe Toyota made such a cheap feeling gear shift.

Anyway, I feel that found a great reliable car for the next few years and who knows, I may even add a few goodies too

Thanks for the replies everyone and we'll see you on the road!
