2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
Hi,
Just wanted to let all the New 2006 Solara owners about the following previous questions.
Accessories...The New Windscreen that was previously unavailable from
Toyota is now available. Contact your local dealer to order. Whatever
the problem was has now been fixed( I hope...mine should be installed
this coming week).
Navigation Units. Yes the BEC105 (replaced bec104) camera will work
on the Solara Navigation units. It is plug and play. (I actually talked my
dealer into doing the install. Well worth it. Install tip...have them mount
it on the metal plate above the license plate...between the plate lights...
works very nicely there. The Solara Navigation unit is Made by Denso. You can view this unit with all its inputs at www.oemvalue.com
The Microphone unit should also plug and play, BUT I cannot verify this
until I get it installed next week also. If you're interested in this let me
know.
Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
Just found out today that the windscreen is ON HOLD again. Maybe
another couple of weeks before releasing???

Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
I checked with 2 different SoCal dealers - they both say that the Windscreen is going to be another couple of months now. Something about it tearing the back of the leather seats.
I just bought my '06 SLE Convertible a little over a week ago - already looking for mods (that I can afford of course!) Didn't get the nav or ground effects that I originally wanted, but very happy with the car so far - with maybe the exception of the spongey ride and the hesitation on accel.
Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
Finally, The new windscreens have arrived. Very easy to
remove, just pops straight out and then you remove the clips from the
back seat. Makes a difference when on the interstate. I like it. Not sure what was re-designed...(back screen cover that goes to the back seat? or ??) Anyway, it was dealer installed and it works.
Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
Weird - every dealer and supplier I've talked to in the past couple of weeks (including Steve G. at Carson Toyota - where I bought my Solara) said they don't have any word on when it will be available - or that they think they will never re-release it!

Do you have a part number?

Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
Well - I still can't find one through a dealer or parts store online ANYWHERE - maybe you just got lucky, but then again, so did I in the end... another guy got one from his dealer BEFORE his new Solara came in and decided it was too much work to install himself so he's selling it online (SolaraGuy.org) for $300 so I snagged it up! I have no idea what these run new since nobody ever seems to have one, so maybe I'm getting hosed on the price, but at least I'll be getting one any day now. I'll post pics when I get it installed.
By the way - you can see pics of my ride that I've been modding since the first month I got it at my CarDomain.com pages: http://www.cardomain.com/id/pixelpainter

Anyone have a part# so I can research this?

Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
I don't have a part# but the dealers all know what it is - perhaps they may be able to give you a part# if you call one. Just Google "Windscreen Toyota Colara Convertible" and you'll see who "doesn't" have one in stock!
Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
The reason I asked for a part number is because the OLD PART number has been STOP SALE'd. Most people dont have the NEW NUMBER YET.
I work for a dealer and have the new updated part number. There are plenty of the windscreens in the LAPDC (Los Angeles Parts Depot).
I can get them at a discounted price + shipping for TS memebers.
Pm me for details.

Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
I bought the rerar windscreen 6 months ago when I bought my 06 from a dealer in New Jersey. When I get back there from Florida next month will find out the status of my screen. They said it takes the dealer 2 & 1/2 hours to install. I paid $350 for mine. I love to see a pic of one installed? Joe, in sunny Florida. PS: When I'm shopping around town I see everyone locks up & sets alarms etc even if they leave there car just for a few minutes. Me, I just leave the top down.
Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
Mine comes in tomorrow but I'll already be gone on a business trip, so it's gonna have to wait until I get back next week for the install. But I will take pics and post once it's installed!
Re: 2006 Solara Convertible Windscreen updates and Nav System
Here are some pictures of the windscreen that I promised...As you can see they drilled two holes to install the bracket/brace holder and the
back screen just attaches with a hook to the plastic piece on the back of the rear seat.
