Default Convertable rear windscreen,

Anyone out there have any comments or problemswith the rear windscreen on the 06 Salara? Lets here. My windscreen sure breaks up the cyclone wind effect with the top down. Makes open air driving a lot more pleasurable. Any comments please fire away? Thanks, Coal Miner in New Jersey.

Default Re: Convertable rear windscreen,

I really like mine so far - have had it for about 3 months now and leave it on even with the top up (which is only about 5% of the time!)

Its easy to take off and stick in the trunk when you need to put extra passengers or big cargo in the back seat too.

I am noticing however, that the flap across the back seat is starting to get a little loose and flaps a bit. I'm going to try to see is there's a way to tighten that up some. It only seems to be on the passenger side and at high speeds (like freeway) - but wasn't like that until just recently.

I have the 2005 SLE Convert which I got with the old style windscreen installed. Windscreen never worked: not only would it blow flat at speeds above 40, but the passenger side hinge would disarticulate if you openned and closed it a few times.

Glad to hear that version 2 works. Could you by chance give me a part number.

Joel

Sorry - I can't give you the NEW part number - but you can tell them you DON'T want the old part #PT906-06040

Even with the new design, it still collapsed so I just globbed some JB Weld in the joints and it's not going ANYWHERE now!

Does that mean you can't flip it down to back up?

That means it stays up now. Permanently. I never, ever wanted it to go down, as it is easy enough for me to see through the way it is, and I remove it when people ride in the back - just stick it in the trunk.

Toyota Customer "Service" just informed me that "the company which manufactures the windscreen has discontinued that productt" 8 or 9 months ago! I just purchased a 2007 SLE and the dealer agreed to sell me a windscreen. The Toyota website still lists the windscreen available for my car.
Can anyone suggest any options?

They are only 1/2 correct.

Yes, the OLD part# was discontinued.

There is a new Part# and if I can find it I will post it here...

I know of people taking new Solaras off the lot now with the new windscreen.

For now I might suggest calling around to different dealers in your area and ask the parts dept. if they have the NEW (not OLD) WIndscreen part # that you can order.

I'll try to hunt down a part # in the mean time.

Sheesh! Toyota's *corporate* in-house 'Customer Service" is misinformed??

Thanks for setting me straight!
