We picked up our new 2007 Solara SLE Convertible yesterday! What a beautiful car. Titanium Silver. Replaced my wife's 2002 Miata (we loved the Miata, but it was too small for me - 6'4", no room for luggage for even a weekend trip, and not safe for the Interstate trips my wife takes for business.)
Would like to hear thoughts of other Solara convertible owners out there...
congratulations!!
I picked up a 2007 solara sle conv. 10 days ago and it's great. Same color as yours.
The only question I have is the way the front license plate has no bracket and is not perpendicular to the ground but at a sloped angle which looks cheap. My dealer says that there is no toyota bracket available. Do you have a front plate? If so, is it screwed into the front bumper without a bracket resulting in an angled position?
Other than that I am pleased with the car, it replaced a 2004 350z which I could not get comfortable in, I'm 6'2".
I'm averaging 25.5 mpg combined hyway/city with regular gas.
Good luck with your new rag top. I have an 06 with the optional rear wind screen. Its a great car & everything fits together perfectly. PS: Read the owners manual before you wash the top. The top is impregnated with some sort of Scoth guard & strong soap will tend to wash it away. See manual. Coal Miner in Jersey.
I have an 06 SLE convertible. I purchased a front license plate bracket at the Toyota dealer - part # 75101-AA050. It looks one thousand times better than having the plate just screwed into the bumper. It follows the horizontal contour of the bumper and clips underneath. It was only $11.00. The main question is - will it fit on your 2007? Check it out. Good Luck.
To answer your question, your dealer is full of sh!t - there is a bracket that you can ONLY get from the dealer that fits the nose, as GaryPSU mentioned.
My answer has been to go without one, but I've already had a ticket in Hollyweird for not having one. I toss my old Lic plate (beat to crap from an old accident with the Tundra) up in the dash. If they ask, I tell them I have a new one on order since I had an accident with my old one. They leave me alone then, but I gotta remember to put it up there whenever I park in LA.
Just got my 2006 a week ago. I love this car. Only part that is a little scary is driving on the freeway with the top up. Not very good visibility from the rear.
Visibility is definitely an issue with the Convertible. THe first thing I did on the way home from the dealership (as I always do with every new car I buy) is to stop by Auto Zone and pick up a couple small blind-spot mirrors. I got the adjustable convex mirrors and they work great! helps to see the lines in parking spaces too!
Hi,
Love my SLE. going through the work to install factory nav unit... waiting on a wiring harness - (anyone considering this mod pm me... "Oemvalue" has the units; mine arrived promptly and works correctly, except for lack of microphone connection due to aforementioned harness)
Phoned in the accelleration downshift lag problem to Toyota... I can compensate, but it's annoying.
Anyone think the ride is, while excellent overall, a bit harsh on bumps?

Let us know how that Nav works for you! Do they also sell the harness separately as well or did you have to go through Toyota to get it?
I didn't feel the bumps too bad until I installed the TRD RSB and FSTB - and I'm sure it'll get worse once I install some TRD lowering springs and add 20's to it!
Harness is from toyota "instrument panel no.2 wire" either 82142-aa010 or -aa020 sells for 40-60 bux. I have the wiring jumpers figured out to install the speed and mic connections with the stock harness. The trouble is, Toyota's EPC has a blank field in the record for the aa010 and in that field for the aa020 it says 'multifunction display' Both are for the 07 solara.
However my vin number triggers the number 82142-06470; and the corresponding number for 'with nav' is -06480... both of these are listed in the ECP as for model years "06- " but at least the -06480 is explicitly for navigation. We 'borrowed' one from an 06 equipped with nav and it was not compatible with the 07... so i'm putting my money on the aa010 or 020... my 010 arrives friday.
Why don't i just look in the car and ID my part and get the corresponding alternate? I'm thinking very seriously about going out to the driveway right now and doing just that.
Basically, the parts records only became available to me today, after spending the day before yesterday doing the physical install... then driving back to lean over the parts guy... and thinking i remembered my car from the day before as being the 020... now i'm not so sure...
So, sooner or later i'll have the factory wire in... probably sooner i'll put in the jumpers.
Add Oemvalue.com to your list; he does reverse cameras; video player adapters, ipod controll interface etc, or at least has links to providers of same that he's worked with in the past.
Finally, I'm going to order just the connectors needed to plug into the nav unit's speed and mic ports, and i'll wire them up with the 4 wires needed, and use tap-splices to pick up the signals from the existing plugs which are taped off right now. This should be a neat, economical solution, and repeatable for others. The connector part numbers are on the TIS site, in the wiring diagram thing.
ok I didn't take pix. But the jumpers all worked! Hooked up the speed sensor and mic. Now I can tell my car to go to... anywhere. The Auto re-route feature (for when you miss a turn) is more intelligent than on my wife's N----n Q---t, which will sometimes offer up a new route just as you drive past the first turn on that new route; repeat ad sanitarium.
I'll keep the wirinig diagrams if anyone needs 'em pm or email
We just picked up a 2007 Solara Convertible on Saturday. It is a lot of fun to drive, but I must admit that the visibility is poor, top up or down. I think I'll get used to it, but for now it's a bit of a pain.

Welcome!
Get some small convex mirrors - it will make a world of difference for you!
