I just got back from the mechanic after getting the first two CEL codes. I ordered an A/F sensor from oxygensensors.com part number Denso 234-9007. The mechanic told me this is the sensor for bank one sensor two, and that I need to order another one for bank one. He also told me that the sensor is stuck in the manifold and that it is going to cost me $400 to remove to manifold and A/F sensor. Does this sound right for a seized sensor as far as cost goes? Also does anyone know the part numbers of the AF sensors i do need??? I have a 2000 solara v6. thanks.
I just wanted to introduce myself as the new Solara Forum Moderator.
I was pretty active in the TS forums back when I still had my Tundra, but since I had to say goodbye to my faithful friend after 5 years of service, I have a new love in my '06 (Gen 2) Solara Convertible SLE.
Since I got my new ride this last January, I've done a TON or research online and through dealers and parts folks to find out just what's available for our cars - and sadly, what's not.
So - ask me any questions you might have - PM me or share your experiences and tech finds.
Thanks! See ya online!
Jeff
Hi...
How do I program a new remote for my 2006 Solara? I am buying one to replace the one I lost and I need the instructions.
Also in the mornings when I start my car, it seems to be a racing sound under the hood.. after the car warms up, it stops. Is this normal or should I take it into the dealer to be checked?
I'm an about-to-be Solara owner, waiting for the dealer to install the windscreen before I bring home my new friend.
My question is - do you have, or know where I can search to find, close up pictures of a properly installed windscreen? I'm not certain what has to happen to the car, but I believe it involves drilling holes. It didn't sound like the dealership had much experience, but I'd rather they buy new interior panels if something goes wrong, instead of me buying them.
I'd just like to know in detail how things are supposed to look before I pick up the car.

Thank you - that's perfect. I now know what things should look like, and if mine's not lookin' like that, it's staying there until it does!
Is there a limit on questions?
If not, my next one is about alarms - I paid the dealer on Saturday to install the factory alarm, and the windscreen and alarm install were supposed to be finished today.
Instead, I got a call that the windscreen's done, but they can't install the Toyota factory alarm in a convertible. That seems strange, although they were willing to sell me the Karr system they put on when cars are on the lot, or a LoJack instead. Hmmmmm...
I'm just curious if you or anyone else has an RS3200 Toyota alarm in your convertible.
If I could ask a third question - TRD RSB -- Rear Sway Bar? How much of a change, and how much of a punch to the wallet??? Before the Beetle convertible I'm trading in for the Solara, I had an MR2 Spyder. I didn't drive the Beetle hard enough in the test drive, and later discovered it felt much like driving a mini-van. I don't expect the Solara to be anywhere near that, but I'm pretty sure convertibles with their extra weight in higher places can use some improvement. It'll never be an MR2, but then again, I could never bring much home from the store with the MR2 either...
I am new to forum format. I have a 2002 Camry 4 cyl US engine. I need to change drive belt. How do I release belt tension and do I need any special tool to change belt?-
Wow, I didn't know there was a Solara forum here!!! ok my question.. i have a Solara that won't start ever since I took the battery out, what could be the problem?? thanks for your help guys!! hehe

And if you want, tell me about your TRD springs -
Thanks again!
First - there's no limit to questions here - but I start charging $20/question after the first two. LOL!!
1) I have no idea what they're talking about on the alarm thing - unless the "factory" system has to come from the factory and not a dealer-installed item. Mine came with it (and yes, it's a convertible). But my Tundra (previous Toyota) had the KARR system and I really liked it, so I'd have no problem going that route again - just make sure they put the LED in the lower-left dash (next to Top/Window buttons) like the factory system does so it still looks OEM.
2) The TRD RSB is the best investment you will EVER make for your convertible! I really can't believe Toyota didn't make them this beefy from the factory! I have mine set to the stiffest setting (that's the way my girlfriend seems to like it) LOL! But it's an easy DIY install and under $200. I'd also recommend the TRD FSTB (strut tower brace) which will keep your nose from diving into corners. Both cheap and totally stabilize roll on the vehicle tremendously!
3) The TRD springs aren't as easy a DIY project unless you got a big burly friend to help you (like I did - he's done dozens of rides before, so I just sat and drank beer while I watched him do all the work!) From what I noticed, you need to really know what you're doing or have someone else install them for you. I also recommend that you either get the SE Sport struts and replace the SLE struts at the same time, or get an adjustable coilover kit (TEIN or comparable) and forget the springs/struts altogether. The later will cost you a lot more $$ so which is why I opted for the springs - but as soon as I can afford to, I'll be replacing with a stiffer, adjustable ride with TEIN coilovers.

I think the problem is you're an idiot!
ROFLOL!!!
Hey man - welcome to the SG forums! Glad to see another SG-er here too!

Hope that helps!

$20 after the second question... Hmmm - how can I put this... Oh, gee, I sure wish I had the part no. for that RSB!
I haven't found it looking under Solara or Camry, so I'm guessing it's listed first under another model. I did find the FTSB - and it's $160 at one internet dealer. I'd start with those two, and see about the springs next.
"The TRD springs aren't as easy a DIY project unless you got a big burly friend to help you "
As a matter of fact, I do. And he has a spring compressor, and some experience with replacing springs. And, if I do decide to replace the springs, I have beer so I can watch carefully, and offer advice from a distance.
I don't know what's up about the alarm, other than I've seen the Toyota factory alarm listed as including a glass break sensor, which might be a bad thing in a convertible. I heard some comments about people having difficulties with the Karr system, although that could be installation and not the system. I'm trying to find out what I can about the factory unit, and I figure if it'll work out I can probably install it myself. I'm assuming the wiring and connectors are already in the car, and it's mostly about locating them and connectings things.
Thanks again for your help - and if you feel like it, pass on the part no. for that RSB!
LOL man - if I didn't know better I'd take you seriously!
Hey - do you have pics of your Tundra around? Post 'em here if you're not already on CD!
