Camry-SolaraGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Camry-Solara.
This is a discussion thread titled "Solara Questions - ASK ME!", within the Camry-Solara forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
New To This Site & Not Sure I Know How Or Where To Post Question(s) On This Site, But Here Goes:
2001 Solara Sle V-6. 59,500 Miles. Bought The Car At 50,000 Miles. Every Time I Start It It Goes Right To 1600-1700 Rpm. Will Stay There For A Good 8-10 Minutes, If I Had The Patience To Sit There & Burn Gas. Even In 60+ Degree Weather. Galls Me To Put It In Reverse At Such High Rpm's. I Expect The Auto Trans To Blow Up Any Day. Dealer People Hem & Haw "this Is Probably Normal". Is It???
Also, Was Worried About Braking Ability (lots Of Foot Pressure-slow To Stop). Again, Dealer People Drove It Said Brakes Fine. Felt A Small Ridge In Lf Rotor, Had Them Turn Front Rotors & New Pads. Stops Much Better With Less Pedal Pressure, But Pedal Travel Seems Excessive Before Brakes Start To Hold. This Normal? My First Vehicle With Abs.
Hello, I have a 04 sle v6 solara with 2 noise problems, one is when opening and closing the sunroof, it makes a grinding noise. The other noise is a rattle when driving slow coming from the left side around door or sunroof, I can find the source, thanks

Any Help/suggestions Greatlyappreciated!
Wow - first I've heard of that one - but it's gotta be something in the ECU that's keeping it so high - or some sensor is blown I'd guess. As far as the brakes go, they shouldn't be mushy like that either - doesn't have anything to do with the ABS unless you jam it to a skid.
Sorry - I'm not a mechanic, just try to direct folks to common known issues/problems. If anyone else here has experienced this - please speak up and offer some help!
I recently purchased an 06 SLE convertible. My wife opened the top inside of a parking garage and it now has a 4 inch tear in the canvas right above the frame where it attaches above the widshield. The tear does not visably seperate until it is opened and folded down. A trim shop informed me that it could not be repaired only replaced. Is this correct?

Answered in your other thread. Please don't double-post... we'll get to ya!
Jeff, hi..... I saw a guy drive his solara through the canyon's like it were a truck. I mean this guy was off roading his convertible onto a curb like it was the thing to do.... Is this normal?
i have 2004 solara w/nav system and as of this morning the system is beeping continuously and audio is not working. the cd player is running but there is no volume control.
the beeping continues even with the nav sytem is turned off (audio off).
OK...i took the fuse out of the nav/stereo system but the beeping continued even without the fuse. i'm assuming its stereo related because of the no audio and the beeping is coming out of the speakers.
I'm not familiar with the Nav system - and haven't heard of this particular problem before. Have you ejected all the CDs and tried again? (assuming it holds more than one) How long have you had the car? I'd get it in to the dealer if its under warranty.
Hi, I'm new here so please bear with me!
I have a 1999 Toyota Solara SLE and I'm taking the car to Africa to use while on assignment. I intend to sell it overthere when the assignment is over. Anywy, due to the extreme heat in Africa I'd like to install a remote starter so the car can be nice and cool before driving each day. Question is: what brand of remote starter w/alarm would you recommend, any extras needed for the immobilizer, how reliable are remote starters on '99 Solara's , and how difficult is it to disable remote starters if something goes wrong? I'd hate to have to rely on mechanics over there to troubleshoot gadgets they're not familiar with. Thanks everyone!
Dunno - can't help you there as I've never used one before. Most folks I've seen that have the remote starters are in cold weather but not heard of any problems/issues to date.
cmorun - Usually when the blower only works on high it is the blower resister that is bad. I don't have a Solara so I cannot tell you exactly where it is located but on most cars it is attached (usually by a few screws) to the blower / evaporator housing under the dash on the passanger side.
loracle - Viper is going to be your best bet for Remote Start alarms. As far as disabling them if there is a problem I cannot help you but you could probably call a tech line to walk you through disabling it.

I have a 2001 Toyota Solara V6 SE. So far, it has been a great car except for an extremely annoying rattle coming from the driver's side dashboard. It seems to be associated with wind because it only appears at >40mph and is independent of the terrain. I checked and re-sealed the windshield gasket and tried placing foam under the dash at the lower edge of windshield. All of this was to no avail. The noise disappears in the winter but comes back with a vengeance in the summer. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
