That's correct. I have the factory voice activated navigational system that is an option for the 2008 SLE. What I want/need is a rearview camera to provide improved rear visibility.
The engineers at DENSO said that either a SIENNA or 4 RUNNER back up camera should work, but you will have to figure out how to mount it.
You will have to make a harness from the back to the NAV. The camera has 4 wires that might be able to be added to the R26 plug on the back of the NAV pins 21/22/23/24. There is not seperate harness to add, your going to have to build it, we might be able to get the connector that the camera plugs into, otherwise you'll have to splice in your homemade harness to the camera also.
I'd have to see a pic of the back of your nav and the connectors to see if there is room for those wires. I should be able to get the pigtail wires to add to the Nav connector.

Well its been a while for this thread, but I have a Solara question.
I am looking at an 04 SE V6 convertible. It has about 57k miles.
1) What kind of mpg should I expect?
2) Any special maintenance I need to think about with the convertible?
3) Do the convertible just have a lot of flex in them going over bumps compared to the coupe?
4) Do you get used to the giant blind spot?
5) Are the rear headrests removable or do they fold down to be able to see out the back?
Don't know about the '04 but my wife's '08 gets 24-30mpg right now and it has less than 5K miles, so it will improve.
I've treated the top with Ragtop from autogeek.net. It keeps the water beading up on it. Don't use a brush on it unless you have to.
Haven't noticed much flex. Extremely quite, as compared to the MR-2 she had.
Blind spot with the top up is only overcome by using the side mirrors. ?That was my major objection to the car.
The headrests on the '08 are not a factor.

That's really low miles for a 4 year old car!
1) My car is heavily modified but depending on your driving style and where you drive, you can expect over 22mpg at least - probably upwards of 30 in the right conditions and a light foot.
2) Ditto on the Ragg Topp - but since I garage mine, I have only treated it once in 2-1/2 years and it still looks great.
3) The Gen 2 Solara ('04 on up) has been reinforced to not feel the flex as much as the older Solaras did. Again, I've modified mine quite a bit so I feel everything now - but no flex!
4) What blind spot? Keep your eyes on the road ahead of you and don't look back!
(okay - I got adjustable blind spot mirrors and rely on those almost excclusively. Those with Nav HUs in their rides have installed back up cameras that I've seen but only a couple so far)
5) Headrests in rear actually hide the roll cage. Take them off and you'll have two little roll bars in there.
Here is a question for you. Our 2008 Solara converitible SLE has a weird LED light on the back of the rear view mirror. We can find out anything about this little light. Anyone know anything about this weird little light? TIA.

That looks like the Light sensor your describing.
The Green LED is an indicator that it is "ON"

That's right - since your mirror is "active" (meaning it auto-dims when some jerk is behind you with bright lights) then it's just a power on indicator.
That looks like the Light sensor your describing.

No, it is NOT that light. This little LED is totally seperate from the little light that says that the auto dimming mirror is working. Anyone else have any ideas? THANKS for trying.

Show us a picture. There is only 1 LED on the front side of the mirror facing the driver, and a light sensor on the rear side of the mirror facing the windshield.
A picture would surely help, THANKS

I have a 99 SLE with 170k miles on it. It has been a really good vehicle for me. There is a little gremlin in it that maybe you can help me troubleshoot. The cruise control works fine, but the light in the dash cluster sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm guessing it's a loose connection on the light since the cruise works fine. I've tried to reach up and behind the dash, but cannot reach the light. Any ideas on how I might get to the light or if I'm looking in the wrong place?

Your right, it sounds like just the light bulb for the cruise.
your going to have to remve the combiation meter. Turn it around, the bulb housing should twist out about 1/4 turn and the bulb pulls right out, if I remember correctly.
