Default 2006 Solara need a new key and keyless remote

Anyone know how I can get a keyless remote? Previous owner didn't have one and I only got one key. I always like to have a back up key. I heard these keys have some sort of chip in them (safety feature, car won't start without it) and that they are expensive to replace. How expensive?

Thanks,
Denise

You can only have them made through the dealer and they aren't cheap I'm afraid.

You'll need to call the dealership with the vin number and make an appointment to give them nearly $300.00 for the key and remote fob.

I almost fell and hit my head when I heard the price, but whatchagonnado?

Nice key and fob, but damn!

I'm sure that's one of the reasons that the Camry/SOlara aren't on the "top-10 Most Wanted" list by car thieves, too - so I'd have to say it's cheap insurance at that rate. Sux tho, when you lose your keys or someone steals your purse (as happened to a friend of mine).
